Try shooting the eastern rampart just after sunrise when the sun is low enough to give the stone a warm rim but before the crowds arrive. A short walk from there leads to the inner courtyard where the carvings are less crowded and the light is softer. After finishing the fort, head to Pushkar Lake around 10 am for a clear reflective surface about a 20 km drive. Staying at The Fern Residency in Ajmer gives you a convenient base for both sites.

Ujwala Park is a quick 15 minute walk from the city centre and offers a shaded lawn, a small lake and a kids’ play area, so it’s a nice quick break before heading back. If you only have an hour, the Lower Manair Dam gives a short drive and a 20 minute walk around the reservoir, but the fort stays closer and lets you see a 16th century masonry layout in about 30 minutes. Both are doable, but the dam gives a bit more scenic variety.

A good slot is early January on a Wednesday. The weather is cool, crowds thin, and the light is still soft. Arrive about 10 minutes after sunrise to let the last night shift visitors clear. If you’re staying nearby, a quick stop at Taj Mahal, New Delhi, a kilometre away, can warm you up before heading back.

If you stay a night at Sunshine International Boarding & Lodging in Belur, you’ll be just a short auto ride from the Halebidu bus stand. After your early morning visit to Hoysaleswara, grab a quick snack from the dhaba near the temple entrance dosa and filter coffee are popular there. Then head to the Halebidu Archaeological Museum, and finish the day with sunset from the hill south of the temple where the Kaveri bends.

If you’re staying overnight, the Courtyard Nashik is only a short walk from the ghat, so you can hop out early and avoid the midday heat. The early evening, around 5 pm, often sees a gentle lull after the main crowds leave, giving a quieter dip without the cooler temperatures of the morning. This time can be a good compromise if you want a peaceful experience but prefer a slightly warmer water than the pre sunrise dip.

September is still a good time the monsoon tapers off by early September, so you’ll get cooler mornings and clearer skies, similar to the peak months. The temple stays open 24 hours, so you can still catch a sunrise view if you leave around 5 am. If you’re staying at Hotel O POP Foreshore Resort, a quick drive gets you there before the midday crowd. Do you plan to combine the visit with a Dal Lake boat ride?
