You could grab a quick bite at the beachside café a few steps from the entrance they serve fresh dosas and idlis that kids usually love. If you’re staying near Tirupati, the Pai Viceroy Hotel is only about 140 km away and has a good restaurant on site. Do you think the kids will keep up with the 45 minute walk?

If you’re around after sunset, you can catch the main aarti at about 6 pm and then a quieter late night puja that goes until midnight. The evening lights and chants are a different experience from the day’s rush. If you want to stay overnight, Marasa Sarovar Premiere Tirupati is only about 4½ km away and has good reviews for convenience.

If you’re staying near the station, the Super Collection O Mathura Near Railway Station is only a half kilometre walk from the temple, so you can skip the auto entirely. From the bus stand, a local auto takes about ten minutes for roughly ₹15 ₹20. The temple is less crowded in early October or early November, after the Holi rush, and the weather is cooler.

If you’re looking for a short stay that’s still close to Lalitgiri, the Lyfe Hotels Bhubaneswar is a solid option. It’s about 44 km away, so the drive takes roughly an hour. Most of the hotels in the area offer a daily or hourly taxi service that can drop you off at the complex, and the driver usually knows the route well. Just let them know the exact name of the site and the time you need to be there.

If you’re already near Lodhiana Railway Station, the quickest way is a short cab hop that gets you to the fort in about five minutes. From the station you can also walk the 200 metres to the fort, which takes roughly ten minutes on foot. If you plan to stay a bit longer, the Rose Palace Hotel is only 400 metres away and offers a comfortable break after the walk.

If you’re concerned about a late afternoon crowd, the small shrine right after the parking at Tip n Top usually stays clear and still offers a great view. From there you can head straight to Pithoragarh Fort, which is a quick drive and lets you wander the walls without the peak time crowds. If you’d like a relaxed spot afterward, The Green Village Eco Resort Jageshwar is about 38 km away and a good place to unwind.

If you’re looking for a quick extra frame after the riverbank, the Hotel Shelton Rajahmundry sits about 4.8 km away. Its riverside terrace gives a different perspective of the Godavari and the temple reflected in the water, especially around golden hour. It keeps the total walk under ten kilometres and adds a nice contrast to the hard lined domes.

You can also use the stroller parking zone right at the entrance; it lets you leave the stroller there while you walk the 5 km to Upper Ahobilam. That way the kids stay safe and you can keep a light snack handy for the walk.

If you’re already in Pathankot, a quick 15 minute bus from the railway station takes you right to the fort’s bus stand. On the way you can stop at the tea stall for a chai before heading up the steps. The Shahpur Kandi Barrage is a great spot for a river shot, especially in the late afternoon light. A phone camera will capture the stonework fine, but a small tripod can help steady the barrage shots.

If you’re staying at the ARTILLA INN you’ll be right next to both sites. A 6 am visit to Gandhi Smriti usually means only a handful of early morning locals, so the main crowd that gathers around 10 am at the ashram hasn’t yet arrived. The area stays fairly quiet until the mid morning rush.

If you’re starting from Jammu Tawi, the shared auto that drops you right at the temple entrance is usually the fastest. It covers the 35 km stretch in about 45 minutes and you avoid a separate cab hire. If you plan to stay the next day, The Khyber Himalayan Resort & Spa in Gulmarg is a convenient base for the following morning.

If you’re after a quieter sunrise angle, the small park just north of Dashashwamedh Ghat gives a straight view of the river and early light on the boats great for long exposures. For sunset, Assi Ghat’s stone steps catch a warm glow, and the crowds thin after the evening Aarti, so you can set up a tripod with little disturbance. If you need a nearby base, Hotel Abhinav International is only a short walk away. TravelIndiaDeals may earn a commission if you book through this link.

If you’re there on a Thursday, the film screening at the Glasshouse gives a quick cultural bite before you head to the Golden Temple. After the temple’s evening light, you could stop by the nearby fort for a quick stroll. If you need a place to rest nearby, the Best Western Kapurthala is a convenient option.

If you prefer a private ride, a taxi from Solan station takes about 15 minutes to the temple and can drop you near the brewery too. On fair days the roads around the brewery can be a bit slower, so leaving an hour earlier helps avoid the rush.

If you’re arriving at the Port Blair Bus Stand, the walk to Sagarika Emporium is about 3 km and takes roughly 15 minutes on foot. From there you can still make it to the Cellular Jail in about 12 minutes. A quick taxi from the bus stand to the emporium is a 10 minute ride. If you want a short break before heading back, the TSG Grand is less than 400 metres from the emporium and offers a shuttle to the airport.
