Quick stopover in Port Blair: best way to hit Sagarika Emporium and nearby spots?

Irfan Banerjee · 1 month ago ·22 replies

I’ll be in Port Blair for only a few hours after a flight from the mainland. I’d love to grab some authentic souvenirs at Sagarika Emporium and maybe see a nearby attraction before I head back. Is it feasible to fit the shop into a short layover, and what’s the quickest route from Veer Savarkar International Airport or the Port Blair Bus Stand? Also, is the Cellular Jail close enough to visit in the same window?

If you land at Veer Savarkar International Airport you can hop on a local taxi straight to Sagarika Emporium it’s only about 3 km away and takes roughly 10 minutes. From there you can walk to the Cellular Jail in about 15 minutes. If you prefer a short break, the TSG Grand is just 400 metres from the emporium and has a quick shuttle to the airport, so you could grab a coffee before heading back. If you’re flying into Veer Savarkar, a quick taxi to Sagarika Emporium takes about ten minutes. From there, the Cellular Jail is a 15 minute walk. If you want a place to grab a bite or a quick rest, the TSG Grand is only 400 metres away and offers a shuttle back to the airport, so you can squeeze in a coffee before heading out. This way you can get souvenirs and see the Jail within your layover window.

If you’re arriving at the Port Blair Bus Stand, the walk to Sagarika Emporium is about 3 km and takes roughly 15 minutes on foot. From there you can still make it to the Cellular Jail in about 12 minutes. A quick taxi from the bus stand to the emporium is a 10 minute ride. If you want a short break before heading back, the TSG Grand is less than 400 metres from the emporium and offers a shuttle to the airport.

If you’re only on a few hours, take a taxi straight from Veer Savarkar to Sagarika Emporium it’s a 10 minute ride. From there you can walk to the Cellular Jail in about 15 minutes. If you want a quick coffee before heading back, the Hornbill Nest Resort is only 880 metres away and offers a shuttle to the airport, so you can squeeze in a break and still make your connection.

If you’re coming in from the bus stand, a quick taxi to Sagarika Emporium takes about ten minutes. From there the Cellular Jail is a 12 minute walk. If you need a short break before heading back, the Hornbill Nest Resort, less than a kilometre away, offers a shuttle to the airport and a relaxed coffee spot. This way you can grab souvenirs, see the Jail, and still hit your connection on time.

You’re right on the timing the Cellular Jail opens at 8 am and stays open until 6 pm, so a quick walk from Sagarika Emporium works if you arrive early. If you’re tight on time, you can grab a coffee at the TSG Grand, which is only 400 m away and offers a shuttle back to the airport. That gives you a quick break before you head back.

If you’re arriving at the airport, a quick 10 minute taxi gets you to Sagarika Emporium, where there is free parking near the entrance. The Cellular Jail opens at 8 am, so if you land before then you can catch it right after your shopping. After the Jail, a short walk takes you to the TSG Grand, which offers a free shuttle back to the airport and a quick coffee spot. This keeps the whole loop under two hours.

You can park for free right outside Sagarika Emporium, which makes the 10 minute taxi from the airport even smoother. After you shop, the 15 minute walk to the Cellular Jail is still doable if you leave right after the emporium closes. If you need a quick break before heading back, the TSG Grand is only 400 metres away and offers a free shuttle to the airport. TravelIndiaDeals may earn a commission if you book through this link.
