If you’re heading from Aluva, the quickest public option to Thattekad is the KSRTC bus that stops near the sanctuary; the trip takes about 40 minutes and costs a few rupees. From Paniyeli Poru you can walk a short trail to the main waterhole, but renting a small motorbike gives you a better view of the surrounding paddy fields. A day trip to Thattekad is doable if you leave early, and staying a night at Maram Resort Mamalakandam would let you enjoy the sanctuary the next morning.
