Any local food spots near Lumi Lake for a quick stop?

Dev Kulkarni · 3 weeks ago ·17 replies

I’ll be passing through the area around Lumi Lake in October and was wondering if there are any good places to grab a bite nearby. The lake is open all day, and I’m mainly looking for local cuisine or small eateries rather than big hotels. Are there any recommended spots in Bhalukpong, Tipi or Bomdila that are worth a quick stop?

If you’re in Bhalukpong, a quick stop at the roadside stall on the main road serves fresh momo and local thukpa the kind of simple, hearty fare that locals rave about. In Bomdila, the Awoo Resort’s on site café often features regional specialties like thukpa and local tea, and the staff can point you toward nearby stalls. In Tipi, the small tea shop near the market offers steaming hot butter tea and light snacks that pair well with the October chill. In Tipi, aside from the tea shop, there’s a small family stall on the main road that makes yak cheese and a spicy stew called “sukha.” It’s a quick bite and a taste of local dairy. If you’re closer to Bomdila, the Awoo Resort café often has a daily special of fried rice with local herbs that many travelers rave about. If you’re stopping in Bomdila, the Awoo Resort café is a convenient spot for a quick thukpa or butter tea, and the staff usually know where the best local stalls are on the main road. In Bhalukpong, look for the roadside stall near the riverbank that offers freshly made momos with a spicy local chili paste it’s a favorite among locals.

In Bhalukpong you can also try the small stall on the right hand side of the bridge that sells steaming yak cheese skewers. The locals say the cheese is fresh and the skewers are lightly seasoned with local herbs. It’s a quick, tasty bite that pairs well with a cup of butter tea before heading back to the lake.

If you’re stopping in Bomdila, the Awoo Resort café is a quick spot for thukpa, but the real local flavor comes from the small stall on the main road that flips fried rice with fresh herbs. Have you tried it yet?

In Bhalukpong the stall beside the riverbank also offers a quick yak cheese roll that locals say tastes fresher than the one on the bridge. If you’re heading to Bomdila, the Awoo Resort café has a daily thukpa special made with homemade yak broth that many travelers find worth a stop. Have you tried the yak cheese rolls yet?
