If you’re hoping for the longest twilight, late December gives a 6:30 pm sunset, so you can linger after the light fades. The local bus still leaves around 5 pm and the last one is about 7 pm, so you won’t miss the sunset even with a late afternoon arrival. A shared taxi booked a day ahead can drop you straight at the lake entrance, cutting any wait time. If you’re staying near Tirupati, the Pai Viceroy Hotel Tirupati is a convenient base.
