Family trip to Skandagiri Fort – best route from Vijayawada?

Manav Kamath · 2 weeks ago ·17 replies

I’m looking to plan a family visit to Skandagiri Fort from Vijayawada. The fort sits in Krishna district and is only about 5 km from Kondapalli Toys Village. It’s open 24 hours and free to enter. I’d like to know the best route: should we take a taxi, rely on the bus from Kondapalli Bus Stop, or drive ourselves? Also, is there a convenient way to combine a visit to the nearby Undavalli Caves or Prakasam Barrage on the same day?

If you’re staying near the city center, a quick taxi or rideshare to Kondapalli Bus Stop takes about 20 25 minutes and lets you hop on a local bus that goes straight to the fort. The bus drops you near the entrance, so you can walk the final 5 km. From there you can walk or take a short taxi to the Undavalli Caves, which are only about 15 km away. If you prefer to drive, the route via NH 65 is straightforward and gives you flexibility to stop at the Prakasam Barrage on the way back.

If you’re staying at the Capital O Siddartha Grand you can hop on a local bus from the Kondapalli stop that drops right near the fort entrance. From there a short taxi ride or a 15 km walk takes you straight to the Undavalli Caves. If you prefer the Prakasam Barrage, it’s on the same highway back, so a single drive covers all three spots.

You can also park a small vehicle at the fort’s entrance; the parking lot is free and can hold a few cars, so if you drive you’ll have a convenient spot before heading up. After the climb, the same NH 65 stretch that takes you to the Prakasam Barrage also runs past the Undavalli Caves, so a single drive can hit all three sites in one day.

If you stay at Capital O Siddartha Grand you’ll already be close to the Kondapalli stop.

Parking at the fort entrance is free and fits a few cars, so if you drive you can leave the vehicle right there and start the climb without worrying about a long walk. After the hike the same NH 65 stretch takes you straight to the Prakasam Barrage and passes the Undavalli Caves, so you can finish all three spots before heading back. If you stay at Capital O Siddartha Grand, you’re already just a short walk from the Kondapalli bus stop.

If you’re staying at Capital O Siddartha Grand, you can walk to the Kondapalli Bus Stop in about ten minutes and catch the local bus that stops right at the fort entrance. The bus runs roughly every 30 minutes, so you can leave early, hit the fort, and then head back to the same bus stop for a quick ride to the Undavalli Caves or Prakasam Barrage before sunset. This keeps the day simple and avoids extra parking hassles. TravelIndiaDeals may earn a commission if you book through this link.

You could also start early and hit the Undavalli Caves first, since they open at 9 am and close at 5 pm. That way you get the daylight hours for the caves and still have time to climb Skandagiri before sunset. If you’re staying at Capital O Siddartha Grand you’re only a short walk to the Kondapalli bus stop, which makes the whole day smoother.

Since the fort has a free parking lot, if you drive you can leave the car right at the entrance and start the climb without a long walk. After the hike, the same NH 65 route takes you straight to the Prakasam Barrage and passes the Undavalli Caves, so you can hit all three spots in one day. If you stay at Capital O Siddartha Grand, the Kondapalli bus stop is just a ten minute walk away.

If you’re staying at Capital O Siddartha Grand you can hop on the local bus at Kondapalli stop around 10 am and it drops you right by the fort entrance. From there the Undavalli Caves are a 15 km drive via the same NH 65, so you can finish the fort, grab a quick meal, and hit the caves before sunset. The Prakasam Barrage is just a 5 km stretch further down the highway, so the whole loop fits nicely into one afternoon.

If you’re staying at Capital O Siddartha Grand, a quick 10 minute walk gets you to the Kondapalli bus stop where the local bus drops right by the fort entrance. Catch that bus early, hit Skandagiri, then head back to the stop and take a short taxi or bus to the Undavalli Caves remember they open at 9 am and close at 5 pm so you can finish the caves before sunset and still enjoy the barrage on the same route.
