A quick check of the map shows the lake to the fort is about 20 km, so you’ll spend roughly 45 minutes on that stretch. The rest of the day is just a few minutes from the temple to the lake and back from the fort to the city. After the fort you could head straight to Hotel Atharv; it’s only 260 m from the temple and keeps you close to the next day’s sights.

A small stall just off the main road by the temple sells a local snack called “phuchka,” a spicy, tangy puffed rice ball that many say tastes better than the ones at the Jagannath market. If you’re looking for a sit down place, FabHotel Amaltas has a modest restaurant nearby that serves a few regional dishes. Have you tried the phuchka yet, or do you prefer the more elaborate tribal platters at the market?

If you want a quieter sunset spot, head to the small hill just south of the temple where the Kaveri bends. The view of the river and the temple silhouette in the evening is lovely. You can grab a quick snack from the dhaba near the temple entrance before heading back to the bus stand.
