If you’re staying at Zostel Pahalgam, you can head to the Shiva cave right after the main shrine. The cave’s north facing entrance catches the first light around 6 am, giving a sharp, almost glassy glow that highlights the carvings. From there, a quick 10 minute walk takes you to the viewpoint overlooking the Pir Panjal range; the sun is usually low enough to cast long, dramatic shadows on the temple walls by 4:30 pm, which is ideal for history focused shots.

If you’re staying near Sweet Water Lake, Treebo Rock Valley is a convenient base. The lake’s hike and sunset walk can fill a whole day, but if you want a quick taste of Goa’s heritage, you could head to Fort Aguada early the next morning and then finish the day at Baga Beach for a sunset on the sand. This way you get a mix of nature and coastal vibe without stretching the trip too long. TravelIndiaDeals may earn a commission if you book through this link.

If you’re staying at the Apple Orchard Resort By Royal Collection hotels in Dhanaulti, you’ll notice a mild drop when you hit Mussoorie. The 200 meter climb usually brings a couple of degrees cooler by mid afternoon, but evenings stay relatively mild back in Dhanaulti. A quick stop at the resort’s own weather app can give you the exact temp shift for the day you plan to head up.

You might also want to shoot the museum around 9 am in late autumn; the sun is higher than at sunrise but still low enough to give gentle shadows on the stone carvings, and the light is less diffused than early morning, so the details pop. This time keeps the Sepahijala canopy lush but gives sharper foliage. Staying at Hotel Anurag Palace lets you hop from the palace to the museum before the afternoon heat. If you’re heading from Indore, a shared taxi or a private cab gives you the most flexibility, especially with kids. Buses run from the main bus stand to Pithampur, but they can be crowded and the schedule isn’t always convenient. Once you arrive, consider staying at JMC Hotel the Moon in Pithampur; it’s close to the dam and has good family rooms. Also, bring a light jacket the evenings near the dam can get cool, even in summer. TravelIndiaDeals may earn a commission if you book through this link.

You could try shooting the temple at about 4:45 pm the sun is low enough to give a warm rim on the columns while still letting you capture some interior detail. From there a quick walk to the Golghar shows the round mound against a clear dusk sky, and the Patna Museum’s façade can be framed behind the temple for a layered shot. If you’re staying nearby, The Red Velvet Hotel Samarpan is only a short walk away.

You’ll notice the crowd peaks around 2 3 pm on weekdays. If you can push your visit to after 4 pm the flow eases and you’ll still catch the evening light show that starts around 5 pm. The promenade by Sukhna Lake tends to clear earlier, so the spill over is minimal later in the day. Staying at Hyatt Centric Sector 17 keeps both spots within a short walk.

You could start at 9 a.m. to catch the early morning buzz at the zoo, spend about 2½ hours, then walk the 15 minutes to Mysore Palace. From the palace, a short 10 minute drive takes you to Karanji Lake for a quick lake walk. If you need a place to stay nearby, the Grand Continent Mysore A Sarovar Portico Affiliate Hotel is just under a kilometre away.

If you only have a few hours, the Subramanya Temple is a quick stop it’s only 8 km away and the main shrine has a striking gopuram that looks great in a photo. The Kanaka Durga Temple is a bit further, but the view of the hilltop temple over the city is worth the extra drive. If you can spare the time, the Undavalli Caves offer a unique rock cut temple setting that’s a bit farther still. For a quick photo, the temple’s outer courtyard with the marble steps is a classic shot. If you need a place to stay after, the Lemon Tree Premier Vijayawada is a solid option a short distance from all three sites.

If you’re aiming for a quieter trek, early March keeps the trail dry and the crowds thin. In October the hills burst green after the rains, but the humidity can make the walk a bit sticky. A quick stop at Rishikesh is worthwhile for a morning Ganga swim and a stroll through the ashram area. If you stay overnight, the ArtBuzz Rishikesh hostel offers convenient access to the river and the evening aarti.

If you want a clear silhouette, try getting there around 5:15 pm. The sun will be low enough to cast a warm rim around the columns while still keeping the sky bright for a clean outline. After the temple, a quick walk to the Golghar and then the Patna Museum gives a nice layered composition. Staying near The Red Velvet Hotel Samarpan keeps the walk short and convenient.

If you’re leaning toward the maritime side, the old Dutch fort ruins on Kurusadai are a quick walk through 17th century trade routes. On the other hand, Rameswaram’s Ramanathaswamy Temple, with its 22,000 pillar hall, offers a deeper dive into mythic lore and temple architecture. Which angle salt making heritage or temple pilgrimage draws you more?

The Earl’s Court Nainital by Leisure Hotels is a solid choice it’s only 0.57 km from the barrage and offers family rooms. Plus, the lobby has a free parking spot right next to the entrance, so you can drop the car close to the picnic area without any hassle.

A practical tweak is to stop overnight in Dhanaulti before heading up the ridge. The Apple Orchard Resort By Royal Collection hotels sits just a few kilometres from the trailhead, giving the kids a break before the steeper part. From there you can start early on June 10 12, when the ridge is still clear and the monsoon hasn’t set in. This keeps the trek safe and child friendly.

You could head to the Basilica first, then walk a few minutes to the Se Cathedral, both almost next to each other. From there a short taxi ride to Fort Aguada, then another to Calangute Beach. After a quick beach break, hop on a local bus or shared auto to Anjuna Flea Market, and finish with a drive to Chapora Fort. If you want a quick rest before the trip, Treebo Rock Valley is only about 14 km from the church and easy to reach by cab.
