A good extra stop is the step well at Bada Bagh near Ajmer; it’s only about 12 km from the fort and the morning light there highlights the stone carvings without crowds. If you’re staying at The Fern Residency you can hit the fort early, then walk to Bada Bagh for a quiet shot before heading to Pushkar Lake around 10 am for a clear reflection.

If you can get there before noon, you’ll catch the stonework in the best light and the humidity will be lower. A morning walk also lets you avoid the heavier afternoon mist that can linger until late afternoon.

If you can get a local bus that departs the Bhubaneswar bus stand around 5:30 am, you’ll reach Dhauli by 6:30. From there a quick auto hop of 10 15 minutes gets you to Lingaraj just before the main morning crowd. Finish at Khurda Fort by noon, then you can head back or stay at Hotel O Sunshine 2 for a relaxed evening.

You could ask the temple office if they run a short guided walk around the complex they usually point out the stone inscriptions on the outer walls that date back to the Satavahana and Ikshvaku periods. Another tip is to walk to the nearby hilltop shrine of the Venkateswara temple; its old pillars and frescoes often echo the same iconography as Srisailam. If you have time, a visit to the nearby town of Kurnool gives a good view of the Vijayanagara era fort walls that once guarded the region.

Tip n Top tends to quiet down after the lunch crowd, so a 4 pm arrival usually finds a clear spot. If you do see a few people, the Pithoragarh Fort is only a short drive away and gives a quieter valley view. After that, you could head to The Green Village Eco Resort Jageshwar for a relaxed break a bit further out.

You might want to leave the hills early enough to catch the sunrise at the tea garden viewpoint, then head to the nearby Baghmara Tea Estate for a quieter walk before heading back. On the return, a stop at the Neermahal Palace gives a cultural break, and staying at Lake Side Resort Neermahal afterward lets you relax close to the hills.

A good idea is to hit the fort around 5:30 am when the sun is still low the stone carvings get a soft, warm glow before the crowds arrive. After covering the main walls, consider heading to the nearby Pushkar Lake around 10 am for a clear, reflective shot that contrasts nicely with the fort’s silhouette. Staying at The Fern Residency gives you a comfortable base and easy access to both sites. Have you thought about which lens you’ll bring for the wide angle shots?

If you’re there on a Thursday you could catch the film screening at the Glasshouse before heading to the Golden Temple. The short walk lets you still visit the fort or museum after sunset. After the walk, the Best Western Kapurthala is a convenient spot to rest.

The temple has a small shaded seating area near the main shrine where kids can rest and a dedicated child friendly restroom with child sized fixtures. If you’re staying in Nandyal, Hotel DR Indraaprasthaa is only a short drive away and offers a kids’ menu, which can be handy after the visit.

Early mornings, say around 9 am, or late afternoons after the main lunch rush tend to be quieter at the Shivaji Museum. Since Shaniwar Wada is only about five kilometres away, you can walk or take a quick taxi from the museum and finish both spots before dusk.
