A quick detour to the Shillong War Memorial on NH6 gives a neat WWII snapshot before you hit Umiam. After the lake, a short drive to Dholai Village shows traditional Khasi houses and a few old colonial structures. If you’re staying in Shillong, the Living Roof is a convenient base right near the highway.
