If you’re only a short walk from the temple, you can hop on a local bus to Sabarmati Ashram, then catch a short auto to Kankaria Lake. The lake’s perimeter walk is free and the stalls are cheap. After the lake you could stay at Lemon Tree Hotel Rajkot for a comfortable, budget stay a few kilometres out.
