If you’re staying at the Jai Mahal Palace, you can hit Kote Gate in about fifteen minutes. The spice corner that faces the bazaar square is especially good for fresh cardamom, cumin and garam masala, while the narrow lanes just inside the main gate hold the best hand loom cotton and silk stalls. An early morning stroll right after sunrise gives the quietest crowds and the freshest aromas before the midday rush.
