If you’re aiming for a quiet, close up look at the river dolphins, try the mangrove boat after sunrise when the water is still. The safari usually starts a bit later and gives you a better chance of spotting elephants or a tiger. During the winter months, the lake area lights up with bar headed geese and painted storks, so a short walk after either activity can add a nice touch. If you’re staying in Bhubaneswar, Hotel O Saket Homes is a convenient base.
