You might also want to hit the ancient Shiva cave near the main temple early in the morning the light there is sharp and the view of the Pir Panjal range is unmistakable. If you’re staying at Zostel Pahalgam, you can reach both the cave and the main shrine before crowds, then head out around 3:30 pm for the golden hour that casts long shadows across the stone carvings. This timing gives a clear, dramatic mountain backdrop for your history focused shots.

You’ll still see plenty of waterfowl early in the morning the river usually stays calm and the surrounding greenery remains lush after the monsoon. The water level at Thattekad can rise a bit in November, but it still provides good habitat for the resident species and a few migratory birds. If you’re near Maram Resort Mamalakandam, it’s only a short walk to the sanctuary, so you can hop out quickly for a sunrise walk.

October’s cooler mornings mean the western trail’s rock steps stay dry, so you can walk early without the usual late morning mist. If you stay at Vatsyayana A Himalayan Boutique Resort, the staff can show you the best spot on the riverside terrace for a sunrise long exposure shot. A quick tip: bring a wide angle lens for the panoramic view from the eastern gate, which is shorter and less crowded.

If you’re planning an early morning trip, the local buses to Pithampur leave around 5 am and 6 am, so you’ll catch the sunrise over the dam. A shared taxi that drops you at the dam’s parking lot can save time, especially if you have kids. Afterward, consider staying at JMC Hotel the Moon it’s only a few kilometres from the dam and has family rooms that work well for short stays.

If you’re in a rush, a quick walk from Ranga Mandira to the glasshouse at Lalbagh takes about 15 minutes. You can see the lake and the glasshouse before the park closes at 6 pm, then grab a quick espresso at the Vivanta Bengaluru, Residency Road.

Rajrappa is about 28 km from the park, so a 45 minute drive each way leaves you with roughly two to three hours to see the temple and walk along the riverbank. If you want an extra bite, the small market on the main road in Hazaribagh town is just a few minutes from the park and offers fresh chai and light snacks before the day gets busy.

A quick way to keep the day relaxed is to hit the temple first, then head straight to the ashram. From there you can take the 30 minute boat on Kankaria Lake, which shows the fountains and clock tower in one go. If you’re staying near Rajkot, the Lemon Tree Hotel Rajkot is a convenient base for a quick refresh before the afternoon.

If you’re staying at the Platinum Hotel, the restaurant downstairs also offers a quiet, vegetarian thali that includes dhokla and kadhi, which is a bit different from the plain khichdi served at the nearby dhabas. The dining area is set up with low tables and a calm ambience, making it a nice spot to relax after a day at the caves. TravelIndiaDeals may earn a commission if you book through this link.

If you’re staying at Awoo Resort, you can leave right after breakfast and still beat the main wave of visitors. The trail itself is short, so even a half hour delay won’t push you into the midday crowd. It’s worth aiming for a sunrise start, but you can comfortably arrive by mid morning and still enjoy a clear view.

If you’re staying near the city, the PHOU OI BEE HOTEL is only a short walk from the bus stop that heads out. Starting with Kangla Fort gives you the big picture, then the 15 minute drive to the State Museum lets you see the artifacts in context. From the museum the 45 km stretch to Loktak takes about an hour, so you can plan a late afternoon return to Imphal.

The fish patty stall just off the main road is a quick grab that really shows the local flavor. It’s lighter than the coconut curries you’ll find at Velneshwar or Ganpatipule and the lime coriander chutney gives it a fresh kick. If you want a bigger bite, the Kokanwadi Resort kitchen nearby offers a larger version. A small bowl of fresh coconut water from the same stall pairs nicely and keeps you hydrated before you head down the beach. TravelIndiaDeals may earn a commission if you book through this link.

A quick trip now works well, especially if you go early when the river flow is moderate. Pack a lightweight poncho or waterproof blanket for the kids; it keeps them dry while they watch the falls. Afterward, you can head back to Hotel Akanksha and let them splash in the indoor pool or play in the garden’s small play zone.

If you’re timing it to low tide, check the local tide chart for that day. The wet sand then gives a reflective foreground that really pops in the sunset shots.

You might want to bring a refillable water bottle and a light snack for the Gauri Kund trek; the trail has no shops and the 8 km walk can be a bit dry in October. Also, if you arrive before 4 am you’ll likely find a spot in the main parking lot, which helps keep the morning schedule tight.

A lightweight tripod is usually enough for the low light; a sturdy palm tree can also hold the camera if you’re in a rush. If you stay a few minutes past the official sunrise, the Mandovi River will catch the first golden glow and give a nice contrast to the beach shots. After shooting, you could grab a quick coffee at the Goa Marriott Resort & Spa, just under a kilometre from the shore. TravelIndiaDeals may earn a commission if you book through this link.
