If you’re heading from Shillong to Umiam, a quick pause at the Shillong War Memorial on NH6 gives a concise WWII story. Then, on the way to the lake, you can stop by the old colonial watchtower at Shillong Peak for a 19th century military view. After the lake, a short drive to Dholai Village shows traditional Khasi houses. If you need a place to stay in Shillong, Living Roof is a convenient option.
