You could leave the museum around noon, then hop on a scooter for the 3 km ride to Colva it takes roughly ten minutes each way. The beach walk from Benaulim to Colva is about a 15 minute stroll, so you’ll finish by early evening. If you’re staying at Casa De Alnena, the return is just a few minutes on foot. Does anyone know if the beach is quieter in the afternoons during that season?

If you’re staying at the Jai Mahal Palace, you can walk to Kote Gate in just 15 minutes, arriving before the midday rush. The textiles you’ll find in the narrow lanes by the main entrance are usually the most authentic hand loom cotton and silk. For spices, head to the corner that faces the bazaar square there you’ll spot fresh cardamom, cumin and garam masala. An early morning walk gives you the quiet and the freshest aromas, while a late afternoon stroll keeps you away from the larger crowds.

If you’re heading out early, a local bus from Dehradun to Rudraprayag usually leaves around 5 pm the night before, so you can catch the 6 am sunrise at Bright End Corner without a long night’s wait. The view is especially striking in late November when the air is crisp and the sun climbs just above the Himalayan silhouette. Have you checked the local bus schedule for your exact dates?

You could stay at Sunshine International Boarding & Lodging in Belur; it’s only a short auto ride from the Halebidu bus stand. Arrive at the temple right after sunrise the light on the carvings is best then. After about two hours, head to the Archaeological Museum, then take a quick auto to the Belur Chennakeshava Temple. Finish the day with sunset from the hill south of Hoysaleswara, where the Kaveri bends; the view of the temple silhouette is lovely.
