If you’re staying near the temples, the HAYATHI INN is only a few hundred metres away, so you can walk straight to the Five Rathas. From there the Mahabalipuram bus stand is about 2.5 km, and Chengalpattu railway station sits roughly 12 km away. At 4 pm the last Chennai to Chengalpattu trains leave just before 6 pm, so a taxi is still the safest option after that hour.
