October is usually cool enough for a day out. If you want to keep the walk short, you can hop on the 10 minute local bus from Galta Ji to the Zoo; it runs every 30 minutes in the morning. From the Zoo, the route to Hawa Mahal is only about 5 km and passes through a few shaded lanes. A quick stop at the Jai Mahal Palace café gives a cool break before the afternoon heat rises.
