If you’re aiming for the coolest part of the day, start at Panhala Fort early, then head east to Rankala for sunset, and finish back at the Mahalakshmi Temple. The drive from the fort to the lake is about 20 km, so you’ll be back in town by late afternoon. After the lake you can walk a short distance to the temple and then check in at Hotel Atharv, which keeps you close to the city centre.
