When’s the best time to visit Jantar Mantar and can I see City Palace the same day?

Dev Kulkarni · 1 month ago ·22 replies

I’ve heard Jantar Mantar is free and open 24 hours, so it’s a no‑cost stop in Jaipur. I’m planning a short trip next month and want to combine it with the City Palace, which is just 1.5 km away. Since the observatory’s best visit windows are March, April, October and November, should I aim for the early morning to beat the heat? Also, are guided tours at Jantar Mantar available on weekdays, and do they cover the nearby Albert Hall Museum?

The guided tours at Jantar Mantar run on weekdays, and most of them include a quick walk to Albert Hall Museum right after the observatory. If you’re there early, you’ll beat the midday heat and still have time to stroll through the museum before the sun climbs higher.

Early mornings are best; the first guided tour usually starts around 9 am, giving you a cool walk to Albert Hall Museum before the sun climbs. If you’re staying near the city centre, the Sheel Mahal hotel is only about half a kilometre from the palace, so you can hop out early and return before the afternoon heat.

A short walk from Jantar Mantar takes you straight to Albert Hall Museum, where the guided tour usually covers the main galleries before the sun climbs higher.

Since Jantar Mantar is open all night, you could even start early before dawn, walk to the City Palace, and then head back for the guided tour around 9 am. The walk between the observatory and Albert Hall Museum is only about a ten minute stroll, so you can fit both in one morning without rushing. If you’re staying near the centre, the Sheel Mahal hotel is just a short walk from both sites, making it a convenient base.

If you’re staying at the Sheel Mahal Close to Hawa Mahal, you’re only about 500 m from Jantar Mantar and the City Palace. That means you can hop out right after your morning tour, walk straight to the palace, and be back before the heat picks up. The guided walk to Albert Hall Museum usually lasts around 45 minutes, so you’ll have a good window to explore both sites in a single morning.

That means you can hop out right after the 9 am guided walk, stroll straight to the palace, and still be back before the heat peaks. Since the guided walk at Jantar Mantar starts around nine a.m., you’ll have plenty of time to walk the short ten minute stretch to Albert Hall Museum before the sun gets too high, and then head straight to the City Palace. If you’re staying at Sheel Mahal Close to Hawa Mahal, the observatory is just about half a kilometre away, so you can hop out right after the tour and still be back before the afternoon heat.

If you want to squeeze in a quick coffee break before the palace, there’s a small tea stall just outside the observatory that serves chai and biscuits perfect for a quick recharge. Do you think that would fit into your morning plan?

Since the City Palace opens at 9 a.m. as well, you can line up the Jantar Mantar guided walk and then walk straight into the palace right when the gates open, avoiding the midday heat and giving you a full morning of free and paid sights.

You could start at the 9 a.m. guided walk, then walk straight to the City Palace right when it opens. That way you hit both places before the heat rises. If you’re staying near the centre, a quick coffee at the tea stall outside Jantar Mantar could give you a fresh break before heading to the palace. Does that fit with your morning routine?
