What’s the weather like at Natha Top in September for a solo trip?

Farhan Phatak · 1 month ago ·19 replies

I’m planning a solo visit to Natha Top this September. I know the place is open all day and usually best in May, June, September, and October, but I’m unsure about the actual weather. Will it be mostly sunny, or can I expect rain? Also, if I’m coming from Srinagar, what transport options are there?

September usually sees a mix of sunshine and occasional showers, so bring a light rain jacket. From Srinagar you can take a shared taxi or a local bus up the Gurez road; the drive takes about three hours. If you prefer more comfort, a private car is a good option and you’ll get to stop at scenic viewpoints along the way.

September in Natha Top usually brings a mix of sunshine and short showers. The mornings are often clear, but there can be brief rain bursts in the afternoon. If you’re coming from Srinagar, the most common way is the Gurez road: you can catch a shared taxi or a local bus that leaves every few hours. The bus ride takes around three hours and stops at a few viewpoints along the way. If you’d rather avoid the bus schedule, a private car gives you more flexibility and you can pause for photos wherever you like.

September at Natha Top usually has bright mornings and a few afternoon showers, so a light raincoat and a waterproof bag will keep you comfortable. If you’re looking for a place to stay in the area, The Khyber Himalayan Resort & Spa in Gulmarg is a solid choice with good reviews and plenty of amenities. If you’re heading up the Gurez road, the gravel stretch can slow you down a bit, especially after rain. A good mid trip stop is the Khaplu Palace viewpoint nice photo ops before the road gets slick. If you need a place to unwind after the drive, The Khyber Himalayan Resort & Spa in Gulmarg is a solid choice.

A typical September day at Natha Top has temperatures between 10 °C and 20 °C, so layering is key. If you’re heading from Srinagar, the shared taxi usually departs around 6 am and 9 am, giving you a good chance to beat the first afternoon showers.

A quick check of the Gurez road shows the gravel section can get slick right after a light shower, so leaving a bit earlier say 5:30 am lets you hit the summit before the typical 3 pm rain bursts. If you’re worried about rain, a small waterproof bag is handy; most showers last only an hour. After the drive, The Khyber Himalayan Resort & Spa in Gulmarg is a solid choice for a comfortable base.
