Vijayawada Food: Local Dishes vs Street Food for First‑Time Visitor

Dhruv Patel · 2 weeks ago ·17 replies

I’ll be in Vijayawada for the first time next month and I’m really curious about what food to try. The city is known for its delicious cuisine, so I’d like to know which local dishes are a priority compared to the street food stalls that are everywhere. Also, are there any recommended restaurants or eateries near the Kanaka Durga Temple where I can get authentic dishes?

If you’re near the Kanaka Durga Temple, try the local “pappadam” and “pindi” stalls that line the main road they’re a quick bite and very authentic. For a sit down meal, there’s a small eatery called “Vijaya Sweets & Snacks” just a short walk from the temple that serves traditional Andhra curries and a sweet “kanda pitha” you shouldn’t miss. It’s a favorite among locals and offers a genuine taste of Vijayawada’s cuisine.

If you’re looking for something beyond the quick pappadam, try a thali at the old style dhaba on Main Road it usually has the spicy “kurru” (chicken curry) and a sweet “kanda pitha” that locals rave about. A good place to sit down is a small eatery a short walk from the temple that serves authentic Andhra curries. If you’re staying near the temple, the Capital O Siddartha Grand is just a 0.3 km walk away.

If you’re near the temple, you might also try the “pindi” a spicy lentil stew that locals say pairs well with the sweet “kanda pitha.” A quick walk from the shrine is a small dhaba that serves a full thali with the signature “kurru” chicken curry. For a sit down experience, the Capital O Siddartha Grand is only a short walk away and is known for its authentic Andhra curries.

It’s a short walk from the shrine and a popular choice among locals. For a sit down meal, you could try Capital O Siddartha Grand, which is only about 300 metres away and offers authentic Andhra curries.

You might want to try the local “pindi” a spicy lentil stew that goes great with the sweet “kanda pitha.” A short walk from the temple takes you to a dhaba that offers a full thali with the signature chicken curry, and if you’re looking for a sit down place a bit further out, the Capital O Siddartha Grand is only about 300 metres away and is known for its authentic Andhra curries.

If you’re looking for a sit down place a bit further out, Capital O Siddartha Grand is only about 300 metres from the temple and is well known for its authentic Andhra curries. They also serve a spicy sambar that pairs nicely with the sweet kanda pitha you’ll find at the nearby stalls. Do you need a recommendation for a quick bite that isn’t pappadam?

If you’re staying near the temple, the dhaba on Main Road also offers a vegetarian thali that includes the local “pindi” and a sweet “kanda pitha.” It’s a quick walk from the shrine and locals say the curry here has a slightly tangier spice mix than the one at Capital O Siddartha Grand. You might try both for a fuller taste.

You might also want to try the local kanda pitha with a side of pindi at the dhaba on Main Road the pindi is spicier there than at Capital O Siddartha Grand, which is only a short walk away. If you’re after something a bit heavier, the dhaba’s thali usually includes a generous portion of chicken kurru that pairs nicely with the sweet pitha. Have you tried the local “pindi” with its spicy lentil stew? It’s a common side at the dhaba on Main Road and pairs well with the sweet “kanda pitha.” If you prefer a sit down, the Capital O Siddartha Grand is just a 300 meter walk from the temple and offers a full thali with the signature chicken curry. Let me know if you need a recommendation for a vegetarian thali nearby.

If you’re near the temple and want something more substantial than quick pappadam, try the dhaba’s thali it usually includes the spicy pindi and a sweet kanda pitha. After that, you could head to the nearby Quality Hotel DV Manor for a sit down meal; they serve authentic Andhra curries in a relaxed setting. Does anyone know if the dhaba offers a vegetarian option?
