Quick photography ideas at Gondal Museum with just a few hours

Pooja Saikia · 4 weeks ago ·17 replies

I have just a few hours to spend in Gondal and want to capture the essence of the museum. The museum is open 24 hours and entry is free, which is great. I’m especially interested in the vintage car collection and the royal costumes, but I’m not sure which parts offer the best lighting and angles. Are there specific galleries or spots within Naulakha Palace that are photogenic and easy to reach in a short visit? Also, is it worth visiting Riverside Palace nearby to add another photo opportunity without too much travel time?

The best light for the vintage cars is usually the west facing gallery, where the afternoon sun hits the polished bodies and creates nice reflections. For the royal costumes, the north side hall has a high ceiling and the natural light streams through the large windows, giving a soft glow that flatters the fabrics. If you have a few extra minutes, Riverside Palace is only a short walk away and its terrace offers a great backdrop of the river with the palace silhouette a quick stop that adds a nice contrast to your shots.

The costume hall on the second floor has a skylight that pours soft light across the embroidered silks great for detail shots. If you’re in a hurry, head straight to the west facing car gallery; the angled light from the late afternoon creates sharp reflections on the polished bodies. After that, a quick walk to Riverside Palace’s terrace gives a nice river backdrop without extra travel. If you’re staying near the city, a short stay at Hotel The Grand Regency keeps you close to both sites.

Try the west facing car gallery first the late afternoon sun hits the chrome and gives clean reflections. Then head to the second floor costume hall; its skylight floods the embroidered silks with soft light that flatters the textures. After that, the Riverside Palace terrace is a quick walk away and offers a river backdrop that pairs nicely with the palace silhouette. If you’re staying near the city, Hotel The Grand Regency keeps you close to both spots. TravelIndiaDeals may earn a commission if you book through this link.

The east side of the vintage car gallery often has a softer, diffused light from the morning sun that highlights the paint without harsh glare. If you’re pressed for time, try the lower balcony of the costume hall it offers a wide view of the embroidered fabrics and a natural backlight that makes the patterns pop. After that, the Riverside Palace terrace is just a minute’s walk and gives you a quick river backdrop without extra travel.

If you’re aiming for a quick sunset shot, head to the north facing side of the vintage car gallery in the late afternoon. The light falls just right on the chrome without harsh glare, and the backdrop of the palace walls adds depth. After that, the lower balcony of the costume hall gives a natural backlight that makes the embroidered patterns pop. From there you can walk straight to Riverside Palace’s terrace it’s only a minute’s stroll and the river view looks best just before dusk.

You might also try the small alcove on the north side of the vintage car gallery the angle there catches a gentle spill of light that softens the chrome without glare, and you can frame the car against the palace walls for a layered shot. If you’re pressed, the third floor staircase corridor has a window that lets in a subtle backlight for the royal costumes, giving the fabrics a warm glow.
