Quick family stopover at Gonasika – travel plan from Bhubaneswar

Nivedita Goel · 3 weeks ago ·17 replies

I have a short stopover between Bhubaneswar and Rourkela and want to take my kids to Gonasika. The hill is open 24/7 and entry is free, which is great for a quick visit. I’m looking for the easiest way to reach Gonasika from Bhubaneswar, how long the drive takes, and if there are nearby attractions like waterfalls or a park we could also squeeze in.

From Bhubaneswar the quickest drive to Gonasika is via NH5 and then the local roads to the hill. It usually takes around four to five hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. If you have a little extra time you can detour to the nearby Raghunathpur waterfall, which is about an hour’s drive from the hill and makes a nice quick stop for the kids. The area around Gonasika also has a small picnic spot with a view of the surrounding forest, so you can stretch their legs before heading back.

You could also stop at the small wildlife sanctuary near Gonasika it’s just a short detour from the main road and has a walking trail that’s kid friendly. The best time for a quick visit is early morning, before the heat peaks, so you’ll have plenty of daylight to explore and play.

You could also stop at the small wildlife sanctuary just off the main road it’s a short detour from Gonasika and has a kid friendly walking trail that lets the little ones stretch out. If you have a few extra minutes you can head to the Raghunathpur waterfall, about an hour from the hill, which is a quick splash stop for the kids.

If you’re heading straight from Bhubaneswar, the fastest route is NH5 to the local turn onto the Gonasika road you’ll be on the hill in about four to five hours. While you’re there, you can also stop by the nearby Raghunathpur waterfall, about an hour away, which is a quick splash spot for the kids. If you need a place to rest, HOTEL SRI in Keonjhar is only a few kilometres from the hill and has good kid friendly facilities.

You could also stop at HOTEL SRI in Keonjhar, just a few kilometres from the hill, if you need a quick break. It has good kid friendly facilities and a nice view of the surrounding forest. This might fit nicely between the drive to Gonasika and a quick splash at Raghunathpur waterfall. TravelIndiaDeals may earn a commission if you book through this link.

You could pause at HOTEL SRI in Keonjhar for a quick snack and a short walk before heading up to Gonasika. From there the drive to the hill takes about an hour, and a few minutes after you arrive you’ll find a small waterfall right beside the trail great for a splash break with the kids.

A quick stop at HOTEL SRI in Keonjhar gives the kids a fresh break before heading up the hill. From there the drive to Gonasika is roughly an hour, and if you’re looking for a splash spot you can detour to the Raghunathpur waterfall just an hour away. The trail from the waterfall is very kid friendly and offers a short walk through forested paths that can fit nicely between your drive segments.

Sounds like a solid plan. If you want a quick refresh before heading up, HOTEL SRI in Keonjhar is only a few kilometres from the hill and has good kid friendly facilities. After the hike you could also stop by the small waterfall just beside the trail for a splash break. Any idea how long the drive from Keonjhar to Gonasika takes? A quick detour from Keonjhar to Gonasika is about 45 minutes by car, so if you stop at HOTEL SRI you’ll still have plenty of time to reach the hill before sunset. After you climb, you could also head to the nearby forested picnic area that offers a shaded spot for the kids to rest before you head back.

You might also consider a quick stop at the small picnic spot near the hill it’s a shaded clearing with a kids’ play area and a short trail that loops around a small stream. It’s only a few minutes from the main road, so you can stretch the kids’ legs before heading back to the highway.

You might want to check if the main road to Gonasika has a small parking spot near the trailhead it’s usually free and can save a few minutes when you’re on a tight schedule with kids. Also, the nearby stream at the picnic spot sometimes has a quick splash area that’s safe for little ones to play in before you head back.

You might also stop by the small waterfall that’s just beside the Gonasika trail. It’s a quick splash spot, good for kids, and only a few minutes from the parking area. If you have a few extra minutes after the hike, that would fit nicely before heading back.

You could also stop at the small picnic spot just outside the parking area of Gonasika. It’s a shaded clearing with a short trail that loops around a small stream perfect for a quick splash break before heading back.

If you’re looking for a quick nature break before or after Gonasika, the nearby Green Valley Park in Keonjhar is a small, free open space with a playground and a shaded lake. It’s about a 15 minute walk from HOTEL SRI and gives the kids a chance to stretch before heading up the hill.
