Quick activities to do while passing through Golaghat, Assam

Rehan Kaur · 4 weeks ago ·17 replies

While driving through Golaghat, I’m looking for a quick stop that’s worth a few hours. The town is famous for its tea gardens-can I take a short guided walk or just sample some Assam tea? Also, Kaziranga National Park is only 20 km away-would a short detour for a jeep safari fit into a day’s drive? Is there a convenient spot near the bus station where cabs are easily available? I want to make the most of the time without straying too far from my route.

A short tea garden walk is usually offered by the farms near Golaghat, and many of them let you taste freshly brewed Assam right on the terrace. If you want a quick stop, the tea estate just outside the town centre has a small tea house where you can sample a cup before heading out. For the safari, a 20 km detour to Kaziranga is doable, but you’ll need to arrange a jeep in advance the main point where cabs meet the bus station is the roadside kiosk just past the bus stop, so you can grab a local driver from there.

You can stop at the tea estate just outside the town centre they offer a short guided walk and a tea house where you can try Assam brew right on the terrace. For a quick safari, a 20 km detour works if you book a jeep early; the best spot to catch a local driver is the kiosk just past the bus stop. If you need a place to stay nearby, the Kaziranga Golf Resort in Jorhat is a convenient option.

If you’re looking for a quick tea break, the estate right next to the bus stop has a small terrace café where you can sample Assam tea and even walk a short trail through the plantation. For the safari, you can book a jeep at the roadside kiosk just past the bus station; a 20 km detour is doable within the day. If you decide to stay overnight after the park, the Kaziranga Golf Resort in Jorhat is a convenient option. TravelIndiaDeals may earn a commission if you book through this link.

You could also try the tea estate on the outskirts of town that offers a 30 minute guided walk through the tea bushes; the tea house there serves a light snack with the brew. For the Kaziranga detour, a 20 km round trip takes about 3 4 hours, so you can fit a short jeep safari and still head back. The roadside kiosk just past the bus stop is the usual spot to pick up a local driver.

If you’re only stopping for a couple of hours, the tea estate just outside town offers a 15 minute walk through the rows and a terrace café where you can taste fresh Assam. For a quick safari, a 20 km detour takes roughly 3 4 hours round trip, so you can fit a short jeep ride and still return in time. After the park, the Kaziranga Golf Resort in Jorhat is a convenient place to grab a bite or a quick rest before heading back.

You might want to ask the tea estate staff if they can show you the tea processing area too it’s a quick walk and you get to see how the leaves are dried and packed before they hit the market.
