Planning a first visit to Vishalgarh Fort – what route to take?

Varun Bhasin · 4 weeks ago ·18 replies

I’m planning my first visit to Tripura and want to make the most of a day at Vishalgarh Fort. The fort is close to Ujjayanta Palace (10 km) and a bit further from Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary (25 km) and Neermahal Palace (50 km). I’m wondering whether I should start at the fort and then go to Ujjayanta Palace, or if there’s a better sequence that lets me cover all three spots before evening. Also, what’s the best way to move between these sites – by cab, bus, or maybe a local tour?

A good way to fit all three in one day is to start at Vishalgarh Fort first, then head to Ujjayanta Palace, and finish with Neermahal Palace before sunset. The 10 km hop to Ujjayanta takes about 20 minutes by cab, and the 40 km stretch to Neermahal is roughly an hour. A local taxi or a pre booked private hire is the most flexible option; buses run less frequently and can add extra time. If you’re staying near the city, The Parkline offers a convenient base and easy cab access to the sites.

You could reverse the order: start at Vishalgarh, then head to Ujjayanta, and finish at Neermahal. The 10 km hop to the palace is quick, and the 40 km stretch to Neermahal takes about an hour, so you’ll still be back before dark. A local taxi is the most reliable; they can pick you up from your hotel, like The Parkline, and drop you off at each spot without waiting for a bus. This keeps the day tight and lets you enjoy the sunset at Neermahal.

You could tweak the route to cut the longest stretch. Start at Vishalgarh, then head straight to Neermahal, which is about 40 km from the fort. From there, the 20 km drive back to Ujjayanta Palace is short, so you finish before dark. A pre booked taxi from The Parkline can drop you off at each spot without the wait time that buses have.

If you’re staying at The Parkline, you could start at Vishalgarh, then head straight to Neermahal. From there the 20 km drive back to Ujjayanta is quick, so you’ll finish before dark. A local taxi can drop you off at each spot, and the bus that runs from Agartala to Neermahal leaves early in the morning, so you won’t miss the sunset.

You might also want to check if there’s a day tour package that bundles the fort, the palace and Neermahal; that way the driver handles the 25 km stretch to Sepahijala and you can squeeze a quick stop there before heading back. Does anyone know if the local tour operators still run that combo around sunset?

You could start at Vishalgarh, head straight to Neermahal, then finish at Ujjayanta that cuts the longest leg to 40 km first. If you’re staying at The Parkline, a local taxi can drop you off at each spot and pick you back up, keeping the day tight. Also, the bus from Agartala to Neermahal leaves around 7 am, so you could catch an early ride if you prefer public transport.

You could add a quick stop at Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary between the fort and Neermahal about 25 km from the fort and 20 km from Neermahal so you still finish before dark. A local cab can drop you off at the sanctuary’s entry point, then take you straight to Neermahal, keeping the day tight.

If you’re staying at The Parkline, a short 10 km drive takes you from Vishalgarh to Ujjayanta Palace in about 20 minutes. From there, a 25 km hop to Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary is quick, and you can finish the day at Neermahal with another 20 km drive. A pre booked taxi will keep the schedule tight and let you avoid waiting for buses.

After Vishalgarh you could head straight to Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary it’s only 25 km and you’ll get a quick nature break before the long drive to Neermahal. From there a 20 km trip back to Ujjayanta Palace will still keep you in the city before dark. A local taxi from The Parkline can drop you off at each spot, and if you prefer public transport, the Agartala to Neermahal bus leaves early enough to fit the whole loop into one day.

You might also consider dropping by the main gate of the fort first thing in the morning when the light is soft on the ramparts. Then head straight to Sepahijala it’s only 25 km so you get a quick nature break before the long drive to Neermahal. After Neermahal, a 20 km drive back to Ujjayanta keeps you in town before dark. A local cab can handle the whole loop and you avoid the bus schedule hassle.

You could start early at Vishalgarh, then head to Sepahijala around 10 am when the light is soft over the forest. From there a quick 20 km drive back to Ujjayanta keeps you in town before sunset, and you can finish the day at Neermahal if you have the energy. A private cab from The Parkline can drop you at each spot and pick you up, so you avoid the bus schedule.

If you’re staying at The Parkline, a quick 25 km drive to Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary right after the fort gives a nice nature break before the longer leg to Neermahal. A local cab can drop you at the sanctuary’s main gate and then take you straight to Neermahal, keeping the whole day tight.
