Planning a family trip to Shree Govindaji Temple in Imphal – what to know?

Rituparna Maini · 2 weeks ago ·17 replies

What is the best time for a family visit to Shree Govindaji Temple, given it’s free entry and open all day? I’ve heard it’s close to Kangla Fort and Ima Keithel, so are there kid‑friendly spots nearby that we shouldn’t miss? Also, what’s the easiest way to get there from Imphal International Airport? Finally, could anyone recommend a comfortable family‑friendly hotel within a kilometre of the temple?

A good window is early morning, around 6 or 7 am, when the temple is quiet and the air is cooler. After the visit you can stroll to the nearby Ima Keithel market where kids can see local stalls and try fresh fruits. From Imphal Airport, a short taxi ride of about 15 minutes gets you to the temple area. If you need a place to stay, Hotel Yaiphaba sits just under a kilometre from the temple and has a decent rating.

If you’re heading straight from the airport, a taxi takes about fifteen minutes to the temple area. Afterward, the nearby Ima Keithel market has a lively children’s corner with fruit stalls and quick snacks. For a nearby stay, Hotel Yaiphaba sits just under a kilometre from the temple and offers a comfortable, family friendly environment. If you’re planning a family trip, try heading to the temple around mid morning when the crowds are lighter and the air is cooler. After you’re done, take a short walk to Kangla Fort the kids love the open spaces and the old watchtowers. For a nearby stay, Hotel Yaiphaba is less than a kilometre from the temple and is known for its family friendly rooms. Do you know if you’ll need a pick up from the airport or prefer a taxi?

After the temple you might want to head to the nearby Imphal Zoo; it’s only a short walk and the kids love the animals. If you need a quick break, The Padma is just under a kilometre away and has a small playground area for children. It’s a convenient spot if you’re staying near the temple.

A good time is mid morning when the crowds thin out but the temple is still warm. After visiting you can walk about 500 metres to Kangla Fort for open lawns and watchtowers, then head to the Imphal Zoo just a five minute walk for the kids to see animals. From the airport a 15 minute taxi drop off near the temple lands you right in the heart of the area. If you’re looking for a nearby stay, Hotel Yaiphaba is only 0.9 kilometres away and is well rated by families.

If you’re looking for a quick snack after the temple, there’s a small tea stall right near the entrance that serves local sweets and fresh tea kids usually love the colorful stalls. Also, have you checked out the Imphal Zoo’s butterfly garden? It’s a short walk from the temple and a hit with children.
