Planning a budget day trip to Annandale and nearby spots in Shimla?

Parth Randhawa · 4 weeks ago ·17 replies

I’m planning a quick day out in Shimla and want to stick to a tight budget. I’d like to spend most of my time at Annandale, which I know is free and open all day. Could someone suggest a simple itinerary that also includes a short walk to Jakhu Temple (about 3 km away) and maybe Christ Church? I’m hoping to keep transportation minimal and avoid pricey restaurants. Any tips on the best route and a quick lunch spot that won’t break the bank?

You could start at Annandale, then walk south toward the Mall Road. From there, take the short bus or shared taxi that heads up the hill to Jakhu Temple it’s only about 3 km and the route passes the old Christ Church, so you can drop by on the way. For a cheap lunch, stop at the small tea stall on Mall Road; they serve local snacks and a simple thali for under ₹200. This keeps transport minimal and budget tight.

You could head up from Annandale to Mall Road on foot, then catch a local auto that drops you near the church. From Christ Church, a short walk takes you to Jakhu. For lunch, try the roadside dhaba near the Mall they serve chapati and dal with a small thali for around ₹200. If you need a budget stay, The Hosteller Shimla is a few blocks away and offers simple rooms.

After you’re done at Annandale, head south on Mall Road. The walk to Christ Church takes about 15 20 minutes and you’ll cross the main market stalls. From the church, a short bus or shared auto will take you up to Jakhu Temple; the route is steep but the view is worth it. For lunch, the tea stall near the Mall serves a simple thali for under ₹200, and you can grab a quick chai there. If you need a place to stay later, Hotel Springfields is only a few minutes walk from the temple.

You could finish the walk from Christ Church at the tea stall near Mall Road and grab a thali for about ₹200. After lunch, take a local auto up to Jakhu Temple; the ride is short and the view is worth it. If you want a place to crash that evening, Hotel Springfields is only a few minutes from the temple and offers budget rooms. TravelIndiaDeals may earn a commission if you book through this link.

If you want to keep walking, you can go from Annandale to Christ Church along Mall Road, then catch a shared auto from the church to Jakhu. The auto ride is only a few rupees. For lunch, try the small dhaba just off Mall Road; they serve a simple thali for under ₹200. If you need a place to stay later, Hotel Springfields is a short walk from the temple.

You could walk from Annandale to Christ Church along Mall Road, then hop on a shared auto from the church to Jakhu. The auto ride is very cheap, only a few rupees, and the walk from the church to the temple is about a kilometer, so you’ll stay on foot most of the day. For lunch, try the roadside dhaba near Mall Road they serve a simple thali for under ₹200, and the tea stall there has a quick chai that’s very affordable. If you need a place to stay later, Hotel Springfields is only a short walk from the temple.

After you finish the walk from Christ Church, you can hop on a local rickshaw that goes straight up to Jakhu Temple. The ride is cheap and takes about 10 minutes, so you keep transport minimal. If you’re looking for a place to stay after the temple visit, Hotel Springfields is a short walk away and offers budget rooms.

You might also consider stopping by the small tea stall just outside Christ Church they serve a light, affordable thali that usually costs under ₹200. From the church the walk to Jakhu is only about a kilometer uphill, so you can keep the auto rides to a minimum. If you’re staying overnight, Hotel Springfields is only a short walk from the temple and offers budget rooms. Do you think the uphill walk from the church will fit into your time slot?

A good trick is to hit Jakhu Temple early, around 7 or 8 am, when the crowds are light and the air is fresh. From Christ Church you can walk about a kilometer uphill, saving a few rupees on a shared auto. If you need a cheap place to stay later, Hotel Springfields is only a short walk from the temple.

Christ Church has a small café inside that serves tea and biscuits for about ₹150, so you can grab a quick bite before heading up to Jakhu. If you want a place to stay the next night, Hotel Springfields is only a 15 minute walk from the temple and offers rooms at reasonable rates.
