Looking for family-friendly tips for Aymanam Village trip

Abhishek Ganesan · 4 hours ago ·5 replies

We’re planning a family weekend in Aymanam Village and need some practical tips. The village is open 24 hours and entry is free, so we can roam around without worrying about extra costs. For a relaxed day we’re thinking of a backwaters cruise or a walk through the local markets, and maybe a quick trip to the nearby Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, just 10 km away. How do we best reach the village from Kottayam by cab, and are there any kid-friendly spots nearby that we shouldn’t miss?

You can get to Aymanam from Kottayam in about 45 minutes by cab; most drivers will take the NH 183 route. Once there, the backwaters cruise is a hit with kids most operators offer small, shallow boats that keep little ones safe. Near the village, the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary has a dedicated kids’ viewing platform and a short walking trail, so you can combine a nature walk with the bird watching. If you want a quick market visit, the local bazaar on the main road opens early and has plenty of fresh fruit stalls that children love.

It might be worth heading out for the backwaters cruise early in the morning the light is softer and the birds are more active. If you prefer a quieter stroll, the village’s main road has a small, kid friendly playground right beside the riverbank that lets the little ones run around while you enjoy the scenery. Have you thought about timing your visit to catch the sunrise over the backwaters?

If you’re heading out early, the riverbank playground near the main road is a hit with kids and lets them burn off energy while you enjoy the view. After the backwaters, you could drop by Hotel Aida in Kottayam for a quick coffee before heading to the bird sanctuary it’s a short drive and has a kid friendly seating area.
