Late afternoon arrival near Jwalamukhi Temple-good hotels?

Nivedita Goel · 3 weeks ago ·17 replies

I’ll be arriving around 5 pm and need a place to stay near the Jwalamukhi Temple. The temple is open 24 hours and the flame is visible after dusk, so I’d like to be close enough to visit it after dark. The nearest bus stop is Jwalamukhi Bus Stand and cabs are available from nearby cities. Which hotels are best in the area, and what’s the typical travel time from a hotel in Palampur or Kangra to the temple? Also, is it worth staying in Dharamshala and taking a cab to Jwalamukhi early in the morning?

If you’re staying in Palampur, the Matoshree Club and Resort is about 28 km from the temple roughly a 45 minute drive depending on traffic. From Kangra it’s around 26 km, about the same travel time. Both hotels give you easy access to the Jwalamukhi bus stand and a short cab ride to the temple after dusk. Dharamshala would add an extra 20 30 km and a longer drive, so staying closer is usually more convenient.

If you want a quieter stay, the Neugal Riverfront Resort in Palampur is about 27 km from the temple roughly a 45 minute drive. It’s close to the Jwalamukhi bus stand and still lets you hit the temple after dusk. TravelIndiaDeals may earn a commission if you book through this link.

If you stay at Matoshree Club and Resort in Palampur you can catch a cab to the Jwalamukhi bus stand in about 20 minutes, then a short walk to the temple. From Dharamshala the drive is roughly 35 minutes, so you’d still be able to reach the temple before dark, but the extra travel time may cut into your evening plans.

If you do decide to stay in Dharamshala, you can catch a cab to the Jwalamukhi bus stand in about 35 minutes, so you’ll still reach the temple before dark. Just confirm the cab driver’s schedule early in the morning some prefer to leave around 6 or 7 am to avoid traffic. Also, if you’re looking for a quieter night, the RS Sarovar Portico Palampur is a bit farther but has a nice garden that’s worth the extra drive.

If you stay at the Matoshree Club and Resort you’ll find a taxi waiting near the Jwalamukhi bus stand within about 15 20 minutes. From there it’s a short walk to the temple, so you can still catch the evening flame. If you’re okay with a slightly longer drive, the RS Sarovar Portico Palampur is a bit farther but offers a quieter garden area for a late night break before heading out.

If you’re staying at the Matoshree Club and Resort, the cab to the Jwalamukhi bus stand is just a 20 minute ride, and the temple is a short walk from the stand. The drive from Palampur to the temple takes about 45 minutes, so you’ll still have time to see the flame after dusk. If you prefer a quieter night, the RS Sarovar Portico is a little farther but offers a nice garden to unwind before heading out.

If you’re okay with a slightly longer drive, RS Sarovar Portico Palampur is a bit farther but offers a quiet garden area for a relaxed night before heading out to the temple. It’s still within a 45 minute drive.

The RS Sarovar Portico Palampur is about 33 km from the temple, so a cab will take roughly 45 minutes. If you’re staying in Dharamshala, the drive is closer to 35 minutes, which still lets you reach the temple before dark but leaves less time for dinner or rest. Do you have a preference for a quieter garden area or a more central location?

You might also consider the RS Sarovar Portico Palampur if you want a quieter spot it has a nice garden and still only a 45 minute cab ride to the temple. If you stay there, check with the cab driver about leaving around 6 am to beat traffic and get to the Jwalamukhi bus stand in time for the early morning flame.

If you’re staying at RS Sarovar Portico Palampur you can hop on a cab around 5:30 pm and reach the Jwalamukhi bus stand in about 45 minutes, then it’s just a short walk to the temple. The bus stand sits only a few hundred meters from the temple’s entrance, so you’ll still have plenty of time to see the flame after dusk.
