How to reach Kali Temple from Dehradun on a tight budget?

Paramjit Pillai · 2 weeks ago ·17 replies

Hi folks, I need help figuring out how to get to Kali Temple from Dehradun without breaking the bank. I know the nearest bus stop is called Kali Temple Bus Stop and there’s a railway station at Haridwar. Are there affordable bus or shared taxi options from Dehradun to the temple? Also, is it worth taking a train to Haridwar and then a local bus? Any tips on the cheapest route?

You can catch a local bus from Dehradun’s bus stand that stops right at Kali Temple Bus Stop. The fare is usually a few rupees, and the journey takes about 20 25 minutes. If you prefer to go via Haridwar, you’d take a train to Haridwar and then a local bus or shared taxi to the temple, but that adds extra time and a bit more cost. For the cheapest route, just hop on the direct Dehradun to Kali Temple bus.

If you’re already near the Dehradun bus stand, the direct bus to Kali Temple runs roughly every 15 to 20 minutes during the day, so you can just hop on the next one. The fare is usually just a few rupees, and the ride takes about twenty minutes. If you prefer a train, the Haridwar train from Dehradun takes about an hour, but you’ll still need a local bus or shared taxi from Haridwar station to the temple, which adds time and a small extra cost. The direct bus is usually the cheapest and quickest option.

You could also try the local mini bus that starts from the Dehradun Bus Stand and stops right at Kali Temple. It runs every 15 20 minutes and the fare is only a few rupees. If you do take the train to Haridwar, you’ll still need a shared taxi or local bus from the station to the temple, which adds a few extra rupees and time. The direct bus is usually the quickest and cheapest option.

You can also catch the mini bus that leaves Dehradun Bus Stand around 6 am and 7 pm; it stops right at Kali Temple Bus Stop. The fare is only a few rupees and the ride takes about twenty minutes, so it’s usually cheaper than any train plus local transport combo.

If you’re heading after dark, the last mini bus from Dehradun Bus Stand usually leaves around 9 pm and still stops at Kali Temple. It’s cheaper than a shared taxi from Haridwar. Another option is to catch the local auto rickshaw from the temple stop that takes you back to the station for the next train to Dehradun often a few rupees extra but still budget friendly.

If you’re heading early morning, the first mini bus from Dehradun Bus Stand leaves around 5:30 am and stops at Kali Temple. It runs roughly every 15 minutes during the day. The fare stays in the low single digit rupee range, so you’ll save both time and money compared to a train plus local bus combo. If you’re staying near the temple, Vatsyayana A Himalayan Boutique Resort is a convenient spot to drop off your luggage.

If you’re already near the Dehradun bus stand, the mini bus that leaves around 6 pm is the most cost effective way to get to Kali Temple. It stops directly at the temple stop, and the fare is just a few rupees. If you need to leave luggage behind, Vatsyayana A Himalayan Boutique Resort in Tota am is a short 30 km detour but it offers secure storage and you can drop your bags there before heading back to the temple on the next bus. This way you avoid carrying stuff on the bus and still keep costs low.
