How much time should I allocate to Goa Chitra Museum and nearby beaches?

Nikhil Kohli · 1 month ago ·22 replies

The Goa Chitra Museum is open 24 hours and charges 100 INR for Indian visitors. I want to know how many hours I should spend there to see the interactive exhibitions and the village setting before heading to nearby beaches. The museum is only 1 km from Benaulim Beach and about 3 km from Colva Beach, so can I combine a museum visit with a beach walk in a single day? Also, is November to February the best time to visit for good weather?

You can comfortably hit the museum for about two hours that gives you enough time to explore the interactive displays and the recreated village. From there you can walk a kilometre to Benaulim Beach and then hop on a bus or scooter for the 3 km stretch to Colva. The November to February window is indeed the driest, with cooler evenings, so it’s a good choice. If you’re staying nearby, Casa De Alnena is only half a kilometre from the museum, so you could drop by after your walk.

You could start at the museum around 10 a.m., spend about 90 minutes there, then walk to Benaulim Beach for a quick stretch. If you’re staying at Casa De Alnena, you can hop back there after the beach for a quick snack before heading to Colva. The cooler evenings in November February keep the beach walks comfortable, so that timing works well.

You can hit the museum early, say around 6 a.m., spend about an hour and a half, then walk to Benaulim Beach for a quick stretch before heading back to Casa De Alnena for lunch. The 24 hour access means you’re not rushed, and the cooler November February evenings make the beach walk pleasant.

You could leave the museum around 12:30 pm, walk the kilometre to Benaulim Beach and then take a short taxi or scooter ride to Colva. The beach stretch takes about 15 20 minutes each way, so you’ll finish by early evening. If you’re staying at Casa De Alnena, the walk back is just a few minutes and you can grab a light snack before heading out again.

You could leave the museum around noon, then hop on a scooter for the 3 km ride to Colva it takes roughly ten minutes each way. The beach walk from Benaulim to Colva is about a 15 minute stroll, so you’ll finish by early evening. If you’re staying at Casa De Alnena, the return is just a few minutes on foot. Does anyone know if the beach is quieter in the afternoons during that season?

If you’re staying at Casa De Alnena, the museum is a quick 30 minute walk away. After the 90 minute visit, you can head to Benaulim Beach at sunset; the walk is still pleasant and the beach is usually quieter after 5 pm. A scooter hop to Colva takes about ten minutes, so you’ll finish by early evening and still have time for a light dinner.
