How long should I stay at Surya Kund near Dehradun?

Aniket Sharma · 2 weeks ago ·17 replies

I’ll be staying in Dehradun for a few days and want to visit Surya Kund. The spring is only about 1 km from the Yamunotri Temple and is open 24 hours, so I can drop in at any time. I’m curious how long a typical visit lasts-do people just dip in for a few minutes or stay longer for the healing waters? Also, would it be better to visit before heading to the temple or after?

Most people just splash for 15 to 20 minutes. The water is cool enough that a longer soak is optional but not common. If you’re heading to the Yamunotri Temple, dropping by early in the morning before the crowds arrive is usually quieter. After the temple, the site can get busier, especially in peak season. If you want a calmer experience, aim for the early hours.

If you’re staying near Dhanaulti you could stop by the Apple Orchard Resort after your temple visit. The resort’s pool area is close to the Surya Kund, so you can soak for a quick 10 15 minutes before heading to the temple. If you want a longer, quieter dip, try early morning before crowds. The key is to match the timing with your temple schedule.

If you’re staying near Dhanaulti, the Apple Orchard Resort by Royal Collection hotels is only about 70 km away and its pool area is close to the Surya Kund. A quick 10 minute soak right before heading to the temple keeps you refreshed without delaying your visit.

If you’re staying at the Apple Orchard Resort By Royal Collection hotels, the Surya Kund is only a short walk from the pool area, so you can squeeze in a quick dip before heading to the temple. This keeps the schedule tight and lets you avoid the later crowds.

If you’re staying at Prakriti The Retreat in Harsil, you can easily walk to Surya Kund after a quick temple visit. The spot is only a few minutes from the temple, so a 10 minute soak before heading back to the shrine lets you avoid the later crowds. If you prefer a longer dip, try an early morning slot when it’s quiet.

A quick dip at Surya Kund usually takes about ten minutes enough to refresh before heading to the temple. If you’re staying at Prakriti The Retreat in Harsil, you can walk there right after the temple and enjoy a short soak before heading back. Early morning is the quietest, but a mid morning visit still works if you’re on a tight schedule.

You can get to Surya Kund by a short 15 minute drive from Dehradun via the NH 7 route. The water is usually cooler in the early afternoon, so if you’re already heading to the Yamunotri Temple, dropping in around 2 pm lets you soak for about 20 minutes before the crowds swell. If you prefer a quieter soak, aim for the early morning before 9 am.

You can hit Surya Kund right after the temple, and a 10 minute dip usually refreshes you for the rest of the day. If you’re staying at Prakriti The Retreat, the walk from the hotel to the kund takes only about 5 minutes, so you can fit a quick soak before heading back to the shrine. Early mornings keep the place even calmer, but mid afternoon still works if you’re on a tight schedule.
