How best to get to Kamal Basadi from Hassan for a quick weekend trip?

Dev Kulkarni · 1 week ago ·17 replies

I’m looking to spend a quick weekend exploring Kamal Basadi near Hassan. Since the temple is open all day, I just need a reliable way to get there. Are taxis or auto‑rickshaws the best choice, or is there a bus that stops close by? Also, would you recommend any nearby sites to visit while I’m in the area?

You can catch a local bus from Hassan’s main bus stand; the route 36 heads to the village near Kamal Basadi and stops a few minutes from the temple. If you prefer a quicker ride, an auto rickshaw from the same stand will get you there in about 10 minutes. While in the area, check out the nearby Hoysala Village Resort for a short break and a chance to see some traditional architecture.

The 36 bus from Hassan’s main stand stops about a mile from Kamal Basadi, so you can walk or hop on a short auto from the stop. If you want a quicker ride, a local auto from the same stand takes around ten minutes. While there, consider a quick visit to the nearby Belur Hoysala temples they’re only a few kilometers away and worth the extra drive.

If you’re staying in Hassan, the Hoysala Village Resort is a convenient spot to drop by before heading to the temple. From the resort you can catch the same 36 bus that drops near Kamal Basadi or hop on an auto for a quick 10 minute ride. While you’re there, consider a quick detour to the Belur Hoysala temples they’re only a few kilometres away and worth the extra drive. If you’re already in Hassan, a quick 10 minute auto from the main stand is probably easiest. The 36 bus is reliable but you’ll have to walk a mile from the stop to the temple. While you’re in the area, consider a short detour to the Belur Hoysala temples they’re only a few kilometres away and worth the extra drive. If you need a place to stay in Hassan, Palguni Residency is only half a kilometre from the bus stand.

The Belur Hoysala temples are only about 10 kilometers from the bus stop near Kamal Basadi, so you could hop on the 36 bus to Belur and return the same way. If you prefer a quick drop off, an auto from the Hassan main stand takes roughly ten minutes straight to the temple. A good spot to stay while you’re in the area is Palguni Residency, which is just half a kilometre from the bus stand.

You could also grab a quick auto from the Hassan bus stand and ask the driver to drop you at the 36 bus stop that spot is about a mile from the temple, so a short walk or another short auto will finish the trip. If you want a place to stay nearby, Chamundi Comforts is just a little over a kilometre from the bus stand and offers a comfortable base for the weekend.

A quick auto from the Hassan main bus stand usually costs around ₹30 ₹40 and drops you straight by the temple. If you’re on a tight schedule, that’s the fastest option; the 36 bus will still leave you a mile away, so you’ll need to walk or hop on another short auto. If you have a bit more time, a quick detour to the Belur Hoysala temples is worth it they’re only a few kilometres away and offer a nice contrast to Kamal Basadi.

If you’re looking to save a few minutes, you can ask the auto driver to drop you right at the temple entrance instead of the bus stop. That way you skip the mile long walk. Also, if you have a bit of extra time, the nearby Hoysala Village Resort is worth a quick stroll its courtyard shows classic Hoysala stone work that complements the temple’s design. Do you plan to stay overnight in Hassan, or just a quick visit?
