Food options for a day trip to Sholayar Dam

Surya Sodhi · 4 weeks ago ·17 replies

I’m planning a day trip to Sholayar Dam and need to know about food options. Are there any local eateries near the dam or should I bring my own snacks for the boating and nature walks? Also, is there a place nearby where I can pick up fresh fruit or a quick bite before heading to the dam?

If you’re heading to Sholayar Dam early, the nearest village, Chalakkayam, has a handful of small stalls where you can grab banana chips, fresh mangoes, or a quick idli vada combo. The stalls close by noon, so pack a water bottle and a few sandwiches if you plan to stay past that. If you’d rather have a sit down bite before the trip, the Niraamaya Retreats Samroha in Athirappilly offers a simple breakfast menu and is only about 17 km away.

You’ll find a few small stalls in the Chalakkayam village close to the dam that sell banana chips, fresh mango slices and idli vada packs. They close around noon, so if you’re staying later, pack a water bottle and a few sandwiches. For a quick bite before heading out, the market in Athirappilly sells fresh fruit and snacks just a short drive from the dam.

You can grab some banana chips and fresh mango slices at the stalls in Chalakkayam, but they close around noon. If you want a sit down bite before heading out, the market in Athirappilly has a good selection of fruit and quick snacks. For a more substantial meal you could stop at Niraamaya Retreats Samroha they serve a simple breakfast menu about 17 km from the dam.

If you’re heading out early, the stall in Chalakkayam sells banana chips and fresh mango slices, but they shut by noon. A quick stop in Athirappilly’s market gives you fruit and snacks, and if you want a sit down bite before the drive, Niraamaya Retreats Samroha serves a simple breakfast menu about 17 km away. Bring a water bottle for the walk.

You can also grab a quick snack at the small kiosks in Chalakkayam they have banana chips, fresh mango slices and idli vada packs until noon. If you want something more substantial before you head out, the market in Athirappilly offers fresh fruit and ready to eat snacks. For a sit down bite, Casa Rio Resorts Athirappilly serves a light breakfast menu about 17 km away. Bring a bottle of water for the walk.

The stalls in Chalakkayam are good for quick banana chips and idli vada packs, but they close by noon. If you need something more substantial before you leave, the market in Athirappilly sells fresh fruit and ready to eat snacks. A light breakfast at Niraamaya Retreats Samroha a bit further out also works if you want a sit down bite. Bring a bottle of water for the walk.

Do you know if the Athirappilly market is open early enough for you to pick up fruit before heading to the dam?

If you’re heading early, the small kiosks in Chalakkayam sell banana chips and fresh mango slices until noon, so a quick snack works. A good spot for a sit down before the drive is Casa Rio Resorts Athirappilly they serve a light breakfast menu about 17 km away. Just remember to bring plenty of water for the walk and the boating time.
