Best season to visit Ooty Botanical Gardens on my first trip?

Indrani Oak · 2 weeks ago ·17 replies

When would be the best time to see the Ooty Botanical Gardens during my first visit? The official list says March, April, October and November are ideal, so October looks promising for a fresh bloom experience. The gardens are open all day, 24 hours, so I can plan a late afternoon stroll without worrying about closing time. I know the Rose Garden and Ooty Lake are nearby, so I could combine a visit to those spots as well. Also, do the flower shows happen during those months?

Flower shows at the botanical gardens usually run from the start of the blooming season until late November, so October is a good bet. The displays are held in the main pavilion area, and the schedule is posted on the garden’s notice board. If you’re staying near the centre, the Aakash Rooms and Cottages is just half a kilometre away, making a quick return after the show easy. Flower shows usually start in early October and run until mid November, with the main displays held in the central pavilion. If you’re staying near the centre, Aakash Rooms and Cottages is just a short walk away, so you can head straight back after the show. The garden’s notice board lists the exact dates each year, so check it once you arrive.

If you’re aiming for the peak rose burst, early October is best the rose beds start flowering around the 1st and the main pavilion shows the most vibrant displays. After the show you can grab a tea at the pavilion in the Rose Garden, just a few minutes’ walk away. Staying at Aakash Rooms and Cottages makes it easy to head back for a bite after the evening stroll.

If you’re staying at Aakash Rooms and Cottages, you can drop by the gardens right after lunch and then head to the tea pavilion in the Rose Garden for a quick break. The lake is only a short walk from the pavilion, so you can finish the afternoon with a paddle or a stroll around the shore before heading back.

If you’re aiming for the peak rose burst, try arriving a bit earlier in the morning the gardens are usually less crowded before noon, so you’ll get a calmer walk.
