Any fun activities near Kothagudem Thermal Power Station while passing through?

Vaibhav Mahadevan · 1 month ago ·21 replies

I’m driving past the Kothagudem Thermal Power Station and wondered if there’s anything interesting to do nearby. I heard it’s open all day and free to enter, but I’d like to know what short activities or nearby sights are worth a quick visit. Is the Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary, just 30 km away, a good option for a quick detour?

Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary is a decent quick detour the main entry point is about a 30 kilometre drive from the power station. The park has a short nature trail that takes roughly an hour, plus a visitor centre where you can learn about the local flora and fauna. If you’re looking for a place to rest after the walk, the Lemon Tree Premier Vijayawada is a short drive away and offers comfortable rooms.

The power station itself has a small visitor centre with displays on the plant and a few photo spots right by the turbine hall. If you’re looking for something a bit different, a quick 10 minute drive brings you to the nearby Kothagudem village market where you can try local street food and buy a few handicrafts. It’s a low key way to stretch your legs before heading back to the road.

If you’re only looking for a short detour, the 30 kilometre drive to Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary is worth it. The park’s main trail is about an hour long and you can spot deer, peacocks and the occasional crocodile along the riverbank. After the walk, a quick stop at the nearby village market gives you a taste of local snacks and a chance to pick up handmade bangles or woven baskets.
