If you’re heading up the Gurez road, a quick stop at Khaplu Palace before the gravel gets slick after a rain shower can give you a nice break and a photo opportunity. The drive is about three hours, so leaving around 6 am lets you reach the summit before the first afternoon showers roll in. After the drive, if you need a comfortable place to unwind, The Khyber Himalayan Resort & Spa in Gulmarg is a solid choice.
