Looking for best photography spots for family at Kufri Zoo

Tariq Gogoi · 9 hours ago ·6 replies

We’re planning a family trip to Kufri Zoo in November and want to capture some good shots. Since the zoo is open all day and offers scenic views of the mountains, we’re hoping to find the most photogenic areas that work for all ages. Are there particular corners or times during the day when the lighting is best? Also, is it worth visiting any nearby spots like Shimla or Fagu for extra family photos?

Morning light just after sunrise gives a soft glow on the zoo’s enclosures and the mountain backdrop. If you can arrive around 6:30 7:00 am the paths are quieter and the sun is low, which makes for great family shots. In the afternoon the light becomes harsher, so the early part of the day is preferable. If you have extra time, a quick drive to Fagu offers a higher viewpoint of the whole valley that works well for group photos, and the drive itself gives some scenic shots of the hills.

If you want a wide view of the zoo and the surrounding peaks, the ridge near the main entrance works well in the late morning. The light there is softer than the lower paths and gives a nice contrast between the animals and the mountains. After lunch the shadows deepen, so a quick stop at the picnic spot on the ridge for a family group shot can be a good backup. Also, if you’re staying at Radisson Kufri, the hotel’s terrace offers a quick overlook of the valley that can double as a backdrop for a quick snapshot before heading back to the zoo.

A good spot is the ridge just beyond the main gate; it catches the late morning sun and gives a wide angle of the zoo and the surrounding peaks. If you stay at Radisson Kufri, the terrace offers a quick overlook of the valley perfect for a family group shot before heading back to the zoo. After lunch, a short drive to Fagu gives a higher viewpoint that works well for a panoramic family photo. TravelIndiaDeals may earn a commission if you book through this link.

If you’re staying at Radisson Kufri, try the terrace early in the morning when the sun is just rising over the valley it gives a soft rim on the animals and a clear mountain backdrop that works well for both kids and adults. After lunch, a short walk up the ridge near the main entrance captures the late morning light and a wide view of the zoo and peaks, perfect for a family group shot.

If you’re staying at Radisson Kufri, try the terrace right after sunrise the light is soft and the animals are still active before the midday heat. For a quick family shot with the peaks, the ridge just beyond the main gate catches late morning light without the afternoon glare. Do you think the kids will enjoy the short walk up the ridge, or would a shuttle to Fagu be easier?
