Is a quick stop at Nangal Wetland worth it if I’m driving through Punjab?

Nivedita Goel · 8 hours ago ·6 replies

I’m heading from Chandigarh towards Amritsar and have a few hours between stops. Nangal Wetland sits just 1 km from Nangal Dam and is open 24 hours with free entry. It’s a good spot for birdwatching, especially in November. Would a brief detour to the wetland add value before I continue on, or should I stick to the main route?

Nangal Wetland is only a kilometre from the dam and stays open all night, so a quick stop won’t add much driving time. It’s a solid choice if you’re keen on spotting winter migrants the boardwalk is easy to navigate and you can walk back to the highway in under an hour. If you prefer a quick rest instead, the nearby Hotel Sarai Bharatgarh in Rupnagar offers a comfortable break before you head on. TravelIndiaDeals may earn a commission if you book through this link.

If you’re looking for a quick break before heading into the city, consider stopping at Hotel Sarai Bharatgarh in Rupnagar. It’s only about 39 km from the wetland, so you can hop off the highway, enjoy the walk around the boardwalk, then head straight to the hotel for a coffee or a quick rest before you resume your drive to Amritsar.

If you’re looking to stretch the break a bit, the walk around the boardwalk at Nangal Wetland takes only about 15 20 minutes. After that you could head to Hotel Sarai Bharatgarh in Rupnagar for a quick coffee or a short rest before you get back on the highway. It’s about 39 km from the wetland, so you won’t lose much time.
