How long to spend in Almora Town for a weekend trip?

Paramjit Pillai · 21 hours ago ·6 replies

I’m planning a quick weekend visit to Almora Town and wonder how much time is needed to see the key sights. The town is open all day and entry is free, so I can explore at my own pace. With its panoramic Himalayan views, Kasar Devi Temple, and bustling local markets, I’d love to know what a realistic schedule looks like. Also, if I have a couple of extra hours, would a short drive to Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary (about 30 km) be worth it?

You could start early, head to the Kasar Devi Temple by mid morning, then stroll through the market stalls for a quick lunch. After that a short walk up the hill gives you the panoramic view. If you finish around 4 pm, a drive to Binsar would fit in a couple of hours and you’d still have time to see the wildlife trail before dusk. A nearby stay like Sunita Elite is only half a kilometre from the town centre, so you could drop your bags there before heading out.

You could leave the town centre around 3 pm, drive to Binsar, and arrive before sunset. The sanctuary’s main trail is short, so you’ll still catch the evening light over the hills. If you’re staying in town, dropping your bags at Sunita Elite before the drive saves a trip back.

The market stalls usually open around 9 am and stay lively until 5 pm, so you can catch a quick lunch around noon. If you’re staying at Sunita Elite, you can drop your bags there early and head straight to Kasar Devi, then loop back for a sunset view before heading to Binsar.

If you start early around 7 am you can catch the sunrise from the Kasar Devi Temple terrace. The temple opens then, so you’ll have a quiet walk up before the market crowds arrive around 9 am. After the temple you can stroll through the stalls until about 12 pm for lunch, then head back down for a panoramic sunset view around 5 pm. That leaves a window of roughly 1½ to 2 hours to drive to Binsar; you can still see a short wildlife trail before dark. If you’re staying in town, dropping your bags at Sunita Elite before the drive makes the trip smoother.

You could finish the temple walk by about 11 am, then grab a quick bite at a stall near the market square. After lunch, head up the hill for the panoramic view before heading back to town around 3 pm. That gives you roughly 2 3 hours to drive to Binsar, where a short trail will let you spot some wildlife before dark. If you’re staying in Almora, dropping your bags at Sunita Elite before the drive makes the return easier.
