Should I stop at Gonda Hill or Ranchi Lake when driving through Jharkhand?

Rachel Shah · 3 hours ago ·5 replies

I’ll be passing through Ranchi in a few hours and could take a quick detour for a scenic break. Gonda Hill offers 24‑hour access, free entry, and panoramic views of the city, while Ranchi Lake sits just 5 km away and also has a relaxed atmosphere. Which spot gives a better quick‑look experience for a short stop? Also, does the free entry and all‑day opening make Gonda Hill more convenient for a quick pause?

Gonda Hill’s 24 hour free access makes it easier to drop in quickly, especially since it’s only about a 10 minute drive from the city centre. Ranchi Lake is closer at 5 km, but you’ll need to stop for a short walk to see the water. If you want a quick panoramic snap without any extra travel, Gonda Hill is the better choice. Also, the nearby FabHotel Amaltas is just 0.75 km away, so you can head straight to the hill and then back to the hotel if you need a coffee break. If you’re only looking for a quick snap and want to avoid any extra walk, Gonda Hill’s 24 hour free entry is the most convenient. The view is almost instant from the parking lot, and you can head straight back to a nearby spot like FabHotel Amaltas for a coffee or a quick rest. Ranchi Lake would take a bit more time to walk around and get a good angle.

If you’re just looking for a quick stop, the parking at Gonda Hill is right by the viewpoint so you can snap a photo and head back without a long walk. Ranchi Lake, while closer, usually requires a short stroll around the shore to get a good angle, which takes a bit more time. So for a very brief pause, Gonda Hill’s free, 24 hour access is the smoother option.

If you’re only on a tight timetable, Gonda Hill’s parking is right by the viewpoint so you can snap a quick photo and head straight back. Ranchi Lake, while closer, still needs a short walk around the shore to get a good angle, which adds a few minutes. So for a very brief pause, the free, 24 hour access at Gonda Hill is the smoother option.
