Weekend plan near Banjar Valley: Which nearby spots to hit?

Ranganath Singh · 3 hours ago ·5 replies

I’m heading to Banjar Valley for a quick weekend escape and want to make the most of the surrounding area. The Great Himalayan National Park is just 20 km away, and Shringa Rishi Temple is only 5 km from the valley. Chehni Kothi is about 10 km out, while Tirthan Valley lies roughly 35 km away. Which of these spots would you recommend for a short visit, and how long should I budget for each? Also, is there any particular route that’s best for a quick round‑trip from Banjar?

If you only have a few hours, Shringa Rishi Temple is the quickest detour it’s just five kilometres and you can spend about an hour or so walking the trails and seeing the temple. From there you can head back to Banjar without a long drive. If you want a little more nature but still keep the round trip under four hours, a quick visit to the Great Himalayan National Park’s entrance area is doable plan for around two to three hours, including the short walk to the viewpoint. If you’re staying in Jibhi, Madpackers Jibhi is a convenient base and close to the road that takes you to both spots.

If you’re aiming for a quick round trip, start from Banjar and head east on the NH5 to reach the entrance of Great Himalayan National Park. The drive takes about 30 minutes, and you can park near the viewpoint and spend roughly 90 minutes walking. After that, you can turn back toward Banjar via the same road, keeping the total round trip under three hours. If you have a bit more time, a short detour to Shringa Rishi Temple is only a 10 minute drive from the park entrance, adding about 45 minutes for the visit. Staying at Madpackers Jibhi gives you a convenient base close to the road that connects all these spots.
