How much time should I spend at ISKCON Ujjain on a day trip?

Soham Nath · 4 days ago ·11 replies

I’m planning a quick day out from Kolkata to ISKCON Ujjain. It’s open 24 hours and entry is free, but I’m not sure how long to stay to catch the main kirtans and a lecture. It’s only about 10 km from the Victoria Memorial and 12 km from Howrah Bridge, so I could fit it in with a walk around the city. Should I allocate a few hours or a half‑day? Also, is there a best time of day to visit the daily kirtans?

The main kirtan usually starts around 6 pm and runs for about an hour, so if you want to catch that you should leave the city around mid afternoon. The lecture on the day of the kirtan usually follows the evening session, so you’ll be able to stay until about 8 pm. If you’re short on time a couple of hours after 4 pm will let you see the main events and still get back to walk the city before dusk. A quick stop at Hotel 16 Avenue for a coffee before heading out could make the timing smoother.

If you head out around 3 pm you’ll get a good window. The main kirtan starts at 6 pm, so you’ll be in time, and the lecture follows right after, usually until about 8 pm. That gives you roughly three to four hours total, enough to see the main events and still stroll the city before dark. If you want a quieter spot to sit, try the pavilion near the main entrance it’s less crowded than the central hall.

If you head out around 3 pm you’ll have the full 6 pm kirtan and the lecture that follows until about 8 pm. The pavilion near the main entrance is quieter and good for a relaxed sit down. A quick coffee at Hotel 16 Avenue before you leave can smooth the timing. Do you think you’ll be able to fit a stroll around the Victoria Memorial after the lecture?

If you leave around 3:30 pm you’ll arrive just before the 6 pm kirtan starts and still have time for the lecture until 8 pm. Arriving a little earlier lets you snag a quieter spot in the pavilion near the entrance, which is less crowded than the main hall. Do you think you’ll have time to visit the Victoria Memorial after the lecture?

The 6 pm kirtan is the highlight, and the lecture runs until about 8 pm, so leaving around 3:30 pm gives you a full evening. If you want a quieter spot, the pavilion near the main entrance is less crowded than the central hall. A quick coffee at Hotel 16 Avenue before you head out can keep you refreshed and on schedule.

If you’re leaving around 3:30 pm you’ll get the 6 pm kirtan and the lecture until about 8 pm, which fits neatly into a half day. A quiet spot is the pavilion near the main entrance, and a quick coffee at Hotel 16 Avenue before you go can keep you refreshed. Do you know if you’ll need parking near the temple, or will you take a cab?
