Planning a solo trip to Nagarasu Lake in October – best time and what to expect?

Tanvi Ahluwalia · 6 days ago ·14 replies

I’m thinking about a solo visit to Nagarasu Lake in Uttarakhand next month. I know the lake is open 24/7 and has free entry, but I’m wondering if October is still a good month for visiting. Are the weather and crowds favourable then? Also, what activities would be best for someone like me who enjoys walking trails and photography?

October is usually fine the monsoon tapers off, so the lake is clear and the trails are dry. The crowds are lighter than in July or August, so you’ll have more space for photography. If you’re looking for a base near the lake, the Vatsyayana A Himalayan Boutique Resort is a good option, and they have a quiet spot by the river that’s great for early morning shots.

October is great for clear water and drier trails. The sunset over the lake gives soft light for long exposures, and the lower visitor numbers mean you can roam the paths without crowds. Try the loop around the western shore it offers sharp mountain reflections and a few scenic viewpoints. If you need a base, the Vatsyayana A Himalayan Boutique Resort has a quiet spot by the river that’s perfect for early morning shots.

You might want to catch the sunrise from the western shore the light hits the lake just before the sun rises over the peaks, giving a great long exposure shot. If you stay at Vatsyayana A Himalayan Boutique Resort, the early morning walk to the riverbank is almost empty in October, so you’ll have plenty of space to frame that perfect reflection.

October’s lower humidity means the western trail is still dry, but the sunrise can be a bit foggy near the lake. A good route is the loop from the eastern gate to the viewpoint at the hilltop; it gives a 360° view of the lake and the surrounding peaks. If you want a nearby stay with a quiet riverside spot, Vatsyayana A Himalayan Boutique Resort is a solid choice.

October is a good choice the monsoon is done, trails are dry and the lake is crystal clear. You’ll see fewer tourists, so the western loop gives great reflection shots. If you need a base, Vatsyayana A Himalayan Boutique Resort is nearby and has a quiet riverside spot for early morning walks. Have you mapped out the eastern gate to hilltop viewpoint yet?

You might also consider the eastern side of the lake the trail there is shorter and offers a different angle of the peaks, which can be great for wide angle shots. If you stay at Vatsyayana A Himalayan Boutique Resort, you can grab a coffee before heading out and have the whole lake to yourself early in the morning.

You might also try the short trail on the eastern side of the lake it gives a different angle of the peaks and is easier to walk in the cooler October mornings. If you want a place to unwind after the hike, Vatsyayana A Himalayan Boutique Resort is close by and the staff can suggest the best spots for sunrise shots.

October’s temperatures usually hover between 15 20°C, so a light jacket is enough. The western trail’s rock steps are dry, but you might spot a few early morning mist patches over the lake. If you’re into long exposure shots, try the viewpoint at the eastern gate after sunset light there is softer and the reflection of the surrounding peaks is sharper. A quiet stay at Vatsyayana A Himalayan Boutique Resort gives you easy access to that spot.

In October the western trail’s rock steps stay dry, and the early morning mist over the lake gives a dreamy backdrop for long exposures. If you want a quiet spot to set up your tripod, the riverside terrace at Vatsyayana A Himalayan Boutique Resort is perfect. It’s close to the lake and the staff can point you to the best sunrise angles.

You might try heading out before sunrise from the western gate; the mist still lingers over the lake at that time, giving a soft glow that works well for long exposure shots. If you’re staying at Vatsyayana A Himalayan Boutique Resort, the staff can help you time the walk so you’re at the riverside terrace right as the first light hits the water.

You might try the short eastern side trail it’s only a few kilometers and gives a different angle of the peaks, which can be great for wide angle shots. Have you mapped out the best spot for long exposure around sunset?
