How to quickly visit Piran Kaliyar Sharif while passing through Roorkee

Priya Singh · 3 weeks ago ·17 replies

I’m passing through Roorkee on my way to Rishikesh and want to drop by Piran Kaliyar Sharif. Since the shrine is open 24 hours and free to enter, I’m wondering what the best transport option is from the Roorkee Bus Stand or Railway Station. Also, can I get a quick langar meal after the visit, and is it truly free for everyone? If I only have about an hour, what’s the quickest way to get in, get blessings, and be back on the road?

From the Roorkee bus stand you can hop on an auto rickshaw that heads straight toward the riverbank and takes you past the main entrance of Piran Kaliyar. It’s a quick 5 minute ride, and you’ll be inside the shrine within a few minutes. After the prayers you can grab a langar at the shrine’s kitchen; it’s free for everyone, no registration needed. If you only have an hour, stick to the main gate, skip the side lanes, and you’ll be back on the road in time for your next stop.

If you’re only looking for a quick stop, you can catch a local auto from the Roorkee railway station that takes you straight to the main gate it’s about a five minute ride. Once inside, the main shrine is open 24 hours, so you can get a blessing quickly. The langar kitchen serves a simple vegetarian thali that’s free for everyone; no sign up is needed. If you have a bit more time and want a place to rest afterwards, the Ambrosia Sarovar Portico in Haridwar is about 11 km away and offers decent rooms.

If you’re short on time, take an auto straight to the main gate from the Roorkee railway station it takes about five minutes. Inside, you can spend a few minutes at the central shrine and then head to the kitchen for a free thali; no sign up is needed. If you want a quick rest after the langar, the Ambrosia Sarovar Portico in Haridwar is about eleven kilometres away and offers decent rooms.
