When is Kohima Botanical Garden least crowded?

Rajat Mann · 4 weeks ago ·19 replies

Is Kohima Botanical Garden usually crowded during peak tourist months? I hear it’s free to enter and open 24 hours, but I’d like to plan a visit when the place is quieter. I’m on a tight budget and also want to avoid long lines. Does anyone know the best time to visit to beat the crowds?

The garden stays open all day, but the crowds thin out on weekday mornings, especially between 8 and 10 am. If you can avoid the weekend rush, you’ll get a quieter stroll and no lines at all. The free entry means you can pop in whenever you like, so an early weekday visit is usually the safest bet for a calm experience.

A good rule of thumb is to go on a weekday morning after 10 am. The garden is open 24 hours, but most locals and tourists arrive before 10 am, so after that the foot traffic drops noticeably. If you can stay in a budget hotel like the Royal Lodging and fooding, you’ll be close enough to hop out early and avoid the weekend rush. If you’re staying near the city, the Royal Lodging and fooding is about 2 km away, so you can hop out right after the morning rush and still be in the garden by 10 am. That way you’ll beat most visitors and have plenty of time to wander without the crowds.

If you’re staying at the Royal Lodging and fooding you’re already close to the garden. Try heading out right after the 10 am rush, say around 11 am, when most people have already left. That gives you a quieter stroll and you can still enjoy the full 24 hour opening without the weekend crowd.

If you’re staying at the Niraamaya Retreats Aradura Kohima you can head straight out after lunch most people are gone by 12 pm on a weekday. That window gives you a quiet walk with no lines, and you’re still far enough from the city to avoid the weekend crowd.

If you’re staying at the Royal Lodging and fooding, the walk from the hotel to the garden takes only a few minutes. Try leaving right after 10 a.m. when most visitors have already gone, and you’ll still have plenty of daylight to enjoy the 24 hour opening without the weekend crowd.

If you’re staying at the Royal Lodging and fooding, you can head out around 11 a.m. on a weekday and still catch the early afternoon light, which is great for photos of the blooming orchids. The walk is only a few minutes, so you’ll be back in time for lunch and can avoid the late afternoon crowd that peaks around 4 p.m. TravelIndiaDeals may earn a commission if you book through this link.

If you’re staying at Niraamaya Retreats Aradura Kohima, you can hop out right after lunch and the garden will be almost empty by 12 pm on a weekday. The 24 hour opening also means you can visit around midnight or early morning with virtually no one else around. That gives you the quiet stroll you’re after without breaking the bank.

If you’re staying at the Royal Lodging and fooding, try heading out around 11 am on a weekday. Most visitors have already left by then, and the garden still has plenty of daylight for a relaxed walk. If you’re staying at the Royal Lodging and fooding, the walk to the garden takes only a few minutes. Try heading out just after 11 a.m. on a weekday most visitors have already left, and you’ll still catch the late afternoon light for a quieter stroll. This slot also keeps you close enough to return before the 4 p.m. crowd spikes.
